Note: The leader from the tribe of Ephraim was called Hoshea (Ho-SHAY-ah). But Moses called him Joshua (Yeh-ho-SHOO-ah). Why? Ho-SHAY-ah means "salvation." But Moses lengthened Joshua's name to "Yahweh is salvation." ... Sometimes we can think that our salvation comes from somewhere other than God Himself; Moses changed the name to make sure everyone would know Who their deliverer truly was, for deliverance in man is vain (see Psalm 108:12)

27. They wanted to be sure they knew they saw the Nephilim there. Who are part of the Nephilim? vs. 33
Note: Who were the Nephilim? They are introduced to us way back in Genesis 6...Read Genesis 6:1-4 ... In the Old Testament Hebrew, the term "Sons of God" occurs only four more times (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7; Dan 3:25). In all of these cases, the Scripture is speaking of angels. The term "Nephilim" in Hebrew means "the Fallen ones." It would seem that the Nephilim were the result of these sexual interactions between angels and women. Although God destroyed all but 8 people in the flood (Mr. & Mrs. Noah, their 3 sons and their wives) - all the giants would have been destroyed living at that time. However, we read in verse 4 in regard to the Nephilim ... "they were on the earth in those days, and also afterward..." Come to find out, the giant DNA would have been carried through Ham's wife by tracing the geneology of the Philistines, the Anakim, etc. so more giants were born after the flood as well. Also interesting to read is what Jude tells us in Jude 6,7 about angels who did not keep their proper abode who have been in chains waiting for judgment ever since.
