From reading Judges 6 - 7 Study Questions:
1. After deliverance through Deborah & Barak, the land had rest for 40 years. The Israelites did evil in God's sight again and He gave them over to another enemy.
2. What displayed the kind of fear that the Midianites gave to the Israelites?
3. When did Midian attack Israel and what would they do against them? 6:3-5 4. How desperate was Israel when they cried out to the Lord because of the threats and actions of the Midianites against them? 6:6 5. The Lord sent a prophet to the sons of Israel to tell them why they were under oppression from the enemy. He reminded them that He had rescued them from Egyptian slavery and helped them to possess the land in which they were living. He told them that they did not need to fear the Amorites of the land if they would obey Him, but they had not obeyed Him. Then the "angel of the Lord" came and sat under the oak that beloned to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites.
6. Gideon did not feel that the Lord was 'with' them, but that the Lord had abandoned them. Why did he feel this way? vs. 13 - 7. The Lord looked at Gideon and said "Go in this your strength and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?" (vs.14).
8. Immediately Gideon could think of all the reasons why he was not qualified to be the Lord's ambassador or deliverer in this case. What did he say about his family? What did he say about his age? Judges 6:15 -
9. The Lord assured Gideon that it was not about who 'he' was, but about Who "He" was. If He was with him, what could Gideon do to the Midianites as one man? 6:16 - 10. Gideon wanted the Lord to show Him a sign that it was truly Him speaking to him, but He also wanted to give Him an offering. The Lord waited while Gideon prepared the meal and the offering for Him. What did the Lord ask Gideon to do with the meal? vs. 20 -
11. When Gideon realized that he had seen the angel of the Lord, what did he say about the encounter that he had just had? vs. 22 -
12. Gideon built an altar there to the Lord. What did he name it? vs. 24 -
13. On the same night, the Lord told Gideon to do something that took a lot of courage and faith on his part. He asked him to pull down the altar of Baal that belonged to his own father, and then to cut down the Asherah (a wooden symbol of a female diety) that was beside it and use the wood from the Asherah to offer a burnt offering unto Him, "The" Lord, on the new altar that Gideon was to build for him in place of these. Gideon took 10 men with him to complete this task. He was too afraid of his father's household and the men of the city to do it in the daytime, so he did it all at nightime. Early the next morning, the men of the city found the altar of the Lord in place of the altar to Baal. They found out that Gideon was the one who had done this.
14. What did he name Gideon at that time and what did it mean? 6:32 - 15. What happened to Gideon the next time the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east crossed over and camped in the valley of Jezreel? vs. 34 16. Being filled with God's Spirit, Gideon blew a trumpet to call together the Abiezrites and sent out messengers to the tribes of Manasseh, Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali, and they came out to meet him. In the meantime, Gideon asked God for proof that He would surely deliver Israel through him. He needed confirmation.
17. Why did the Lord not want Gideon to have too many people to fight the battle against Midian? Judges 7:2 -
18. How did the Lord scale down the people from 22,000 to 10,000 ? vs. 3 -
19. The Lord said that there was still too many people to fight the battle. He told Gideon to have the people come down to the water. He said that if the people lapped water from their hand like a dog would lap water, keep them - but if they kneeled down to drink water, let them go.
20. The Lord had Gideon go down to the camp to listen to them. He saw that they were like the sand on the seashore in number, but he also heard a man relating a dream to another ... and the one who interpreted the dream saying that it was the Lord giving Midian into the hands of Gideon. When hearing this, Gideon bowed down and worshiped the Lord. Then he divided the 300 men into 3 companies of 100 each.
21. When the army fled, Gideon had messengers to tell all the men of Ephraim to pursue them.

How can you apply this to your life? ...
It would be great to take the time to look up the verses and answers the short survey each day. I think this will be a great guide to helping you journal your thoughts. Usually once you begin to open up on a subject, more things come to your mind to say or pray about. Love you, Brenda
