  13. While the captain guard and the chief priests were preplexed about these words, someone came and reported saying "The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!" One of the Pharisees named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time. He told them men to "take care" of what they proposed to do to these men.

He reminded them how a man named Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and had a group of 400 men join him. He was killed and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. Then another man, Judas of Galilee, rose up and drew some people after him; he too perished and all his followers scattered.
