Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 40

Exodus Chapter 40

Introduction:  Finally, the tabernacle of the tent of meeting is going to be put in place and anointed for service.  The priests will be anointed for service.  Moses himself will light the candles, place the bread on the table, burn the incense and get everything ready.  The Lord's glory will fill the temple!  Moses will not be able to enter once the Lord's glory is there.  The Lord has descended to dwell among His people.  Glory Hallelujah!

Exodus 40
1.  When did the Lord tell Moses to set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting? vs. 1-2
2.  The Lord gave Moses very specific details about what to bring in and where to place it in the tabernacle.  We have talked about it in a previous lesson, but the placement of the furniture actually forms a cross when you see it in the order it was placed. (vs.3-7)

3.  There was a veil to separate the holy of holies from the holy place, and there were hangings all around the courtyard to make it separate from the people with the one gateway inside, which we discussed previously that Jesus is the one way into fellowship with God the Father.  What are we told in John 14:6?
4.  Back to Exodus 40.  What were they to anoint with the anointing oil that was made to God's specifications?
  • vs. 9 -
  • vs. 10 -
  • vs. 11 -
5.  The anointing oil was to set these things apart for God's use; it caused the temple and the things in it to be "set apart" for God only; the way God asked for it to be done.  Under the New Covenant, we are "set apart" for God when we are accepted into His family through faith in the Lord Jesus.  Look up some or all of the verses that follow that show how we are "anointed" for service by the Holy Spirit.

6.  Back to Exodus 40. Moses brought Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting to "wash" them with water. (vs.12) ...Next, Moses put the holy garments on Aaron and Aaron was "anointed" and consecrted to be a minister to the Lord. (vs. 13) ...The tunics were put on his sons and they were "anointed" even as their father Aaron was, to be priests unto the Lord.  What did this "anointing" qualify them for? vs. 15
7.  Moses did all that the Lord had commanded him. (vs.16).  What did he do in the 2nd year on the 1st day of the month? vs. 17-19
8.  Where did Moses place the testimony (the stones that had the commandments on them)? vs. 20
9.  Where was the ark of the covenant placed and what was put up to seperate it? vs. 21
10.  After the table was set up on the north side of the tabernacle outside the veil, what did Moses place on it? vs. 20-23
11.  After the lampstand was set up on the osuth side of the tabernacle, what did Moses do? vs. 24-25
12.  After this, Moses placed the gold altar of incense in the tent of meeting in front of the veil.  What did he do after that? vs. 27
13.  Then Moses set up the veil into the tabernacle (vs.28) ... After he set up the bronze altar of burnt offering before the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, what 2 offerings did he give there? vs. 29
14.  After Moses set up the bronze laver between the tent of meetings and the altar for burnt offerings, what did he do? vs. 30
15.  Who washed their hands and feet in the laver before entering the tent of meeting and before approaching the altar at that time? vs. 31-32
16.  Moses erected the court all around the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the veil for the gateway of the court.  What are we told concerning Moses at this time? vs. 33
17.  What happened as soon as Moses was finished with all that the Lord had commanded him to do? vs. 34
18.  Why was Moses not able to enter the tent of meeting after that? vs. 35
19. How did the sons of Israel know when to set out from camp to the next place on their journey to the Promised Land? vs. 36-37
20. The cloud was there for them to see on the tabernacle each day. What did it appear to be in the sight of all of them at night? vs. 38
GloryCloud
Final Exodus Application:
21. It must have been such an awesome experience for the Glory of the Lord to come and dwell with them in their camp.  They had been so afraid at the mountain, but since the worship of the golden calf and the grace God has extended to give the instructions to Moses a second time and to be willing to come to them through the priests; through the sacrifical system, now they can simply rejoice and worship and know that He has promised to be with them daily - by cloud and every night - by fire.  Through the Holy Spirit, we have been given the same promise - that He will never leave us or forsake us.  We are sealed unto the day of redemption.  How has the Lord shown you His glory in this study of Exodus?
  • Hebrews 13:5 -
  • 1 John 5:11-13 -
22.  Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.  Think back over the entire book of Exodus and try to summarize what you will remember about this study.  God bless you as we continue the books of Moses - next - Leviticus.

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 39

Review & Intro:  Having completed the construction of the tent, the ark of the covenant, its atonement cover, the lampstand, the table of the bread of presence, the golden altar of incense, the bronze laver, the bronze altar of burnt offering and the curtains for the barrier around the tabernacle along with the gate of entrance, all that now remained to be described for the completion of the worship of God's people is ..... the clothing for the priests.
Exodus 39
1.  Aaron's garments, as the High Priest unto God, were made of blue, purple, and scarlet material.  What was the purpose of these holy garments? vs. 1
2.  Can we enter the holy of holies as a priest unto God today?  How is that possible? Comment on these verses:
  • 1 Peter 2:9 -
  • Revelation 1:6 -
  • Revelation 5:10 -
  • Hebrews 10:19 - 22 -
3.  What are we to be dressed in when we minister in the holy place?  Comment on these verses:
  • Isaiah 61:10 -
  • Galatians 3:27 -
4.  Back to Exodus 39.  The ephod was a kind of 'apron' made of materials woven out of gold and linen thread and variously colored yarns of blue, purple and scarlet. How was the gold able to be a part of the design? vs.2-3
5.  The ephod was fastened to the body by two shoulder straps that held the 2 onyx stones. vs.4-7 - What was engraved on these 2 stones that the priest wore on his shoulders?
6.  Shoulders are seen as places to carry a burden upon.  How does the Lord carry our burdens on His shoulders today?  Comment on these verses:
  • Psalm 68:19 -
  • 1 Peter 5:7 -
7.  Next, the breastpiece was made for the high priest.  It was a pouch made from the same materials as the ephod.  It held the sacred lot of Urim and Thummim, which the priest would use to determine God's will in a matter.  The words mean "lights" and "perfections".  By wearing these above his heart, Aaron would indicate that justice originates with God and would remind God to maintain justice for Israel.  The plate that was made for the breastpiece had 3 rows of 4 stones each that represented the tribes of Israel, one stone per tribe.  What were the 12 types of stones on the plate? vs.8-21
8.  As the stones of Urim and Thummim helped the priest determine the will of God, how are we to determine the will of God today? Once we know the will of God, what 3 things can we be assured that it will be?
  • Romans 12:1,2 -
9.  The robe of the ephod was one color.  What was it? vs. 22
10.  What were sewn on the hem of the robe in an alternating fashion? vs.24-26 - Name 2 things
11.  Aaron and his sons all had turbans of fine linen... decorated caps of fine linen...linen breeches (trousers) and then a sash made of twisted linen, and blue and purple and scarlet material, the work of a weaver. (vs.27-29).  We went over the priestly garments in Exodus chapter 28.  What was the purpose of the breeches according to Exodus 28:42-43?
12.  It is important that our 'nakedness' be covered.  It was so important to the Lord after the sin of Adam and Eve that He covered them in animal skins Himself after they tried to cover themselves with leaves only.  Comment on the verses below:
  • Genesis 3:21 -
  • Romans 13:13-14 -
  • Colossians 3:12-14 -
  • Ephesians 6:10-18 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:2-3 -
  • Revelation 19:8 -
13.  After making these garments, they made a plate for the turban that the high priest would wear over his forehead that was fastened to the turban with a blue cord.(vs.30-31)  What was engraved on the plate of pure gold? vs. 30
14.  All the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was completed and they had done according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses! (vs.32)  The entire tabernacle was brought to Moses for his inspection.  Everything is listed in verses 33-41.  What phrase is repeated again in verse 42?
15.  Moses examined all the work and it was all done perfectly as the Lord had shown him on the mountain!  Can you imagine how it felt for him to see with his eyes all that the Lord had shown him in the heavenly vision?  What did Moses do at that time? vs. 43
16.  Our words and deeds will all be examined one day by our Lord.  We need to think about what He will have to say to us at that time.  Read these verses about rewards and accountability before the Lord on Inspection day.  What do you learn?
  • Matthew 12:36 -
  • 1 Corinthians 3:8 -
  • 1 Corinthians 3:14 -
  • 1 Corinthians 4:5 -
  • 1 Corinthians 9:17 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:10 -
  • Romans 14:10 -
  • Romans 14:12 -
  • Hebrews 10:35 -
Application:
Jesus is our High Priest today.  We are His priesthood and we serve with Him just as the Levites served with Aaron when he was high priest over the tabernacle.  In our service, we must be clothed properly, in Christ, for no one can serve in His household without first being robed in the garments of salvation, where we exchange our sins for His robe of righteousness.  Once we are robed, we have things to dress in as well.  Ephesians 6 tells us to dress in the full armor of God each day because we are ministers of intercession as well and we do spiritual battle on behalf of those who need prayer.  May we see ourselves in this important role as a kingdom of priests unto our Lord and get fully dressed daily, giving our burdens to the Lord in prayer, and taking the prayers to the altar of incense, and releasing the sweet aroma of faith in Jesus to the Father, not only with our prayers, but with our very lives as we live out being a living and a holy sacrifice unto Him.  Amen.
17.  Summarize today's lesson and post a prayer if you would like.

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 38

The tabernacle was a sacred tent where God’s presence dwelt among Israel as they journeyed through the desert from Egypt to their promised land. As a tent (unlike their future temple) it was portable and could be moved from spot to spot as Israel traveled. The tabernacle was enclosed by a white wall. There was 1 door to enter. It was on the east side (the rising of the sun).  There were 3 sections: #1, the outer courtyard; #2, the first sanctuary the holy place;  #3, The most holy place inside the veil where God appeared. God gave the specific order for the arrangement of the furniture (Exodus 40:20-3). If you could trace a line around their divine order the following would appear (the ark and mercy seat are two pieces forming one) - THE CROSS !
There were 7 pieces of furniture:
  1. the altar of sacrifice;
  2. the washing laver;
  3. the lampstand;
  4. the table of bread;
  5. the altar of incense,
  6. the ark, and
  7. its lid the mercy seat.
The tabernacle and its rituals are called a “shadow of good things to come”; the salvation of Jesus Christ – of which He is the substance.  Comment on these verses:
  • Hebrews 9:9-11 -
  • Hebrews 10:1 -
  • Colossians 2:17 -
Review & Intro:  The record of how Bezalel made the first 5 golden pieces of furniture was studied in Exodus 37.  We looked at how we saw the Lord Jesus Christ in all of them.  Today, we will see the record of how he built the 2 bronze pieces of furniture - the altar for burnt sacrifices located in the outer court along with the bronze laver for washing.
Exodus Chapter 38 - Observations
1.  After the 5 golden pieces of furniture (ark of the covenant, mercy seat, table for shewbread, lampstand, and altar of incense) ...Then Bezalel proceeded to the next item which was the Altar of Burnt Offering.  The altar was made out of acacia wood, and was equal on all 4 sides, making a square. (vs.1) ... He also made the 4 horns for each corner being of one piece, and he overlaid it with bronze. (vs.2)... He made the utensils, the pails, shovels, basins, flesh hooks and firepans all from bronze metal. (vs.3) ... There was also a grating of bronze network under the ledge about halfway up (vs.4).  He cast 4 rings on the 4 ends of the bronze grating as holders for the poles. (vs.5) ... Then he made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze. (vs.6)  He inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar for carrying it.  It was hollow inside with planks. (vs.7).  What was required to be offered upon this altar for burnt offerings and what was the purpose for it?
  • Exodus 29:38-42 -
  • Leviticus 17:11 -
  • Numbers 28:1-10 -
How is Jesus shown to be the "Lamb of God" without blemish?  Comment on these verses:
  • Isaiah 53:7 -
  • 1 Peter 1:19 -
  • John 1:29 -
  • Hebrews 9:14 -
  • Revelation 5:6-13 -
The Laver
2.  Back to Exodus 38.  Next, Bezalel made the laver of bronze with its base made from the mirrors of the serving women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting. (vs.8) - Remember that Moses set up a tent of meeting before the tabernacle was ever built - ...Note:  These mirrors came from the Egyptian women when they plundered them before leaving Egypt. The priests would have a reflection of themselves in the mirror as they washed their hands and feet before going into the holy place. The laver was not for the shedding of sacrificial blood for sin but for the washing of dirt. One had to be clean to serve. (Exodus 30:18-21).  How are we cleansed to fellowship with God at salvation and then on a continual basis as we reflect daily? Comment on the following verses:
  • John 4:10 -
  • John 4:13-14 -
  • Acts 22:16 -
  • John 7:38 -
  • Ephesians 5:26 -
  • Titus 3:3-7 -
  • 1 John 1:9 -
  • Revelation 21:6 -
  • Revelation 22:17 -
  • Revelation 22:14 -

3.  Next, Bezalel made the walls to create the courtyard that enclosed the tabernacle of meeting.  Specific details are given for all sides of the courtyard; how the walls were to be made and hung between the pillars. (vs.9-17)...The wall was made of fine white twined linen...Biblical measurements of a cubit are approximately 18 inches, so the wall formed a rectangle approximately 150 feet long (half the size of a football field) and 75 feet wide.  The wall represented a barrier between God and His people that only the sacrificial system would solve.  What is the barrier between God and man even today?
  • Isaiah 59:2 -
  • Isaiah 64:6 -
  • Romans 3:19-20 -
  • Romans 3:23 -
  • Romans 5:12 -
  • Ephesians 2:1-3

God is Holy ..... but ..... man is sinful
Note:  God is completely holy and man is completely sinful (since the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden) .. But we see the way "into" the "courtyard" and into the "sacrificial system" when the next item is made by the instructions of God - the gateway into the courtyard which would lead to the brazen altar where sin was atoned for!  Who is the gate?  Who is the door into fellowship and forgiveness with our Holy God?
4. Back to Exodus 38.   After creating the walls for the courtyard, Bezalel made the only entrance into the courtyard on the East side - There were four pillars with four sockets to support the screen of the gate. (vs.18-20) The screen was made of the blue, purple, and scarlet materials and fine twisted lines as the veil and the priest clothing had, surely showing us that Jesus was represented in the gateway, for He is the door and stands at the door of our hearts wanting to come in and be a part of our lives.  Amen.  Look up the following verses and comment on how Jesus is the way, the gate, the door to salvation.  He is the mediator and bridge between the holiness of God and the sinfulness of man because on the cross He literally took our sin upon Himself and paid for the sin to redeem us (buy us back) for God.  He was the 2nd Adam and gained back all that the 1st Adam lost in the garden so that we can again fellowship with God.  Comment on the verses below on how Jesus is the way, the only way to the Father.
  • Isaiah 53:6 -
  • John 3:16 -
  • John 14:6 -
  • John 10:9 -
  • Acts 4:12 -
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 -
  • 1 Peter 2:24-25 -
  • Revelation 3:20 -
The Gospel means "Good News" - Jesus is the way to God!  He breaks down the barrier and makes a way for us to be back in fellowship with God the Father!
 5.  Back to Exodus 38.  Who would be in charge of God's tabernacle?  We are told in verse 21 that Aaron's son, Ithamar, numbered the tribe of the Levites for the priesthood...The tabernacle is finally finished.  Bezalel and Oholiab have completed the work. (vs.22-23)...  How much did it cost to build it?  Approximately 1 ton of gold, 2-1/2 tons of bronze, and 3-3/4 tons of silver! (vs.24-31).. The people gave willingly from the treasures they had received when they left Egypt.  They heard that God desired to dwell with them and they willingly gave to make a way for that to happen for they wanted to be near to God.  There is no way to fellowship with God without atonement, and there is no way to worship God without personal commitment and cost.  What did David say about about his willingness to sacrifice to serve God?
  • 2 Samuel 24:24 -
6.  What did Jesus say it would cost us to serve Him?  Do you long to draw near to God through your relationship to Jesus?  Repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of direction.  To accept Jesus 'as' Lord is to make Him the Lord of your life.  It is to give up your own life for Him to live His life through you.  Are you willing to make the sacrifices to draw near?  Comment on the following verses:
  • Matthew 8:18-21 -
  • Matthew 10:37 -
  • Matthew 16:24 -
  • Mark 8:35 -
  • John 6:66-69 -
  • Romans 12:1,2 -
  • 1 Corinthians 15:31 -
  • Philippians 1:29 -
  • 2 Timothy 3:12 -
  Application:
7.  The gold and the precious metals were glorious in the tabernacle that God had Moses build.  It was built by the pattern of the true tabernacle in heaven that God showed to Moses on Mt. Sinai.  The Psalmist told us that there was something even more precious than gold.  Do you know what it is?  Jesus told the religious rulers who were proud of the gold in the temple they worshiped in that it was more important to worship the One who had sanctified the gold and the temple.  Read the verses below and comment on them.
  • Psalm 19:9-11 -
  • Psalm 119:72 -
  • Psalm 119:127 -
  • Proverbs 16:16 -
  • Matthew 23:12 -
8.  Summarize what you have learned from the furnishings of the tabernacle by combining Exodus 37 and 38.  They are listed below - List beside them how they represent Jesus to you.  Then.. Post a prayer if you would like.
  • The Brazen Altar
  • The Bronze Laver
  • The Altar of Incense
  • The Golden Lampstand
  • The Table of Shewbread
  • The Ark of the Covenant
  • The Mercy Seat

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 37

The tabernacle has been made, we saw the description in chapter 36, and now the equipment to fill it is being made. In chapter 37, Bezalel makes the ark, then the mercy seat, the two cherubim, he builds the table of the bread of presence and its vessels, thereafter making the lamp stand. The chapter ends with the making of the altar of incense and the perfumer’s production of the holy anointing oil and incense.
Exodus 37
1.  Now Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood, (vs.1)  He overlaid it with pure gold inside and out and put a gold molding around it. (vs.2)  He made rings of gold and the poles to go inside the rings for carrying it. (vs.3-5).  The ark was the focal point of the presence of God, for He said that He would dwell between the cheribum who hovered over the mercy seat.  How does Jesus bring us into the presence of God today?  Look up the verses below and comment on them.
  • John 14:6 -
  • 1 Timothy 2:5 -
  • Hebrews 10:19-22 -
2.  Back to Exodus 37.  In verses 6-9, He makes the mercy seat that is directly on top of the ark of the covenant, with the cheribum on top facing one another with wings touching.   It is God's "mercy" that has given us Jesus to be the propitiation for our sins so that we as sinful man can fellowship with our Holy Father through Jesus His Son.  Comment on the verses below about the "mercy" of the Lord given us in Jesus.
  • Ephesians 2:1-10
  • Titus 3:5-7 -
  • 1 Peter 1:3-5 -
  • Hebrews 4:16 -

table-of-shewbread
3.  Back to Exodus 37.  After this, Belzalel made the table that would hold the shewbread or the "Bread of Presence".   (vs.10-16). The bread was put out daily to show that God was present to meet their everyday needs.  He is the Provider.  How have we been shown that Jesus, the Word of God, is what we live on daily and He meets our daily needs?  Look up the verses and comment on this.
  • Matthew 4:4 -
  • Matthew 6:11 -
  • Matthew 26:26 -
  • John 6:31-35 -
  • John 6:48-51 -

4.  Then Bezalel made the lampstand made of pure gold.  It was hammered work of one piece with cups, bulbs, flowers and branches going out on each side. (vs.17-24).  What do we see in the life of Jesus that shows us He is the lampstand in the true tabernacle of heaven and in our lives?  Comment on the following verses.
  • John 1:9 -
  • John 3:19 -
  • John 8:12 -
  • John 12:46 -

5.  Back to Exodus 37.  The next Bezalel made was the altar of incense.  It is described in verses 25-28. We looked at this in a previous lesson; how it was the place where incense was burned right before entering into the holy of holies, which the high priest did once a year to atone for the sins of the people.  The incense never went out which was a reminder that it was for the pleasure of the Lord who was always present in the Holy of Holies.  We saw that the incense burns in heaven and the prayers of the saints are added to it.  Let's look at those verses again and remind ourselves of how we are a sweet aroma to the Lord and how our prayers rise up as incense to His holy presence.  Comment on the verses below:
  • Revelation 5:8 -
  • Revelation 8;3-4 -
6.  Back to Exodus 37.  In verse 29, Bezalel made the holy anointing oil and the pure, fragrant incense of spices.  How are we a sweet smelling aroma to the Lord and also the fragrance of Christ to those around us?  Comment on the verses below:
  • 2 Corinthians 2:14 -
  • 2 Corinthians 2:15 -

Application
7.  The furnishings looked at today were all inside the holy place and even the ark is inside the holy of holies after passing by the fragrant aroma of the altar of incense.  Before getting to that place of fellowship, there were continual burnt offerings going on daily in the outer court all day long all year long to cover the sin of the people.
When we draw near for precious communion with the Lord, let us remember that it is only possible to fellowship with a Holy God because of the sacrifice and blood that Jesus Christ has shed for us to take away our sin.  The Lord desires to fellowship with us and that is why He is the One that gave the plans and prepared the people for such a great task to make a tent where they could have fellowship and He could dwell among them.
Let us draw near today, remembering the sacrifice our Lord made to make this fellowship possible.  Look upon the messages of the cross and spend time in prayer thanking Him for the sacrifice made for you.  Comment on these verses.

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 36

Review & Intro:  All that God commanded Moses on the mountain to construct is now going to be made. A few lessons back, we talked about how every skillful person has been given that skill or talent by God, but whether a person chooses to serve God with that skill is up to them. Beautifully, we see that every skillful person in the camp helped in the construction.   They continued to bring freewill offerings every morning and finally had to be restrained because the workers had "more than enough".  How wonderful it would be if we would all be about the Father's business today, but unfortunately Jesus said in Luke 10:2 ..."The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. " Will you use your skills/talents/gifts to be a laborer in the kingdom of God?
Exodus 36
1.  Who were the 2 men that led the construction of the sanctuary under God's gifting? vs. 1
2.  Who helped them construct all the Lord had commanded Moses? vs. 1
3.  When Moses called Bezalel & Oholiab and every skilled person whom the Lord had put skill, how did they know they were to respond and help? vs. 2
4.  Have you had that heartstir before; some call it tugging or even a nudge from the Spirit?  When do you last remember having it?  How did you respond to it?  Why or why not?  Share if you remember and would like to encourage with your situation.
5.  The materials were all provided by the sons of Israel who had responded to the Lord's call for a contribution.  How did the spirit of giving continue to manifest ? vs. 3
6.  All the skillful men who were performing the work came to Moses.(vs.4)  What did they say to him concerning the contribution gifts that the people continued to bring? vs. 5
7.  How awesome to have "much more than enough" anytime we are doing a work for the Lord.  Compare this to some of the many verses in the New Testament on the subject of giving and receiving.
  • Matthew 6:33 -
  • Luke 6:38 -
  • 2 Corinthians 8:2-5 -
  • 2 Corinthians 9:10-12 -
  • 2 Corinthians 9:13-15 -

8.  Back to Exodus 36.  What did Moses circulate by command for every man and woman to stop doing and why? vs.6-7 -
I love the phraise "more than enough"!
9.  Who made the tabernacle curtains? vs. 8a.
10. Who made the cherubim in the design? vs. 8b
11. The dimensions and detials are given for the 10 curtains, loops, clasps, etc.(vs.9-13) The next set of curtains that were made were for a tent over the tabernacle.  What were these 11 curtains made out of? vs. 14
Do you remember what was significant about the goats' hair for the top covering of the tabernacle?  See if you can find the answer in your past notes or by looking up the significance of the goats' hair online?
12.  The dimensions and details are given for the 11 curtains of goat hair that covered the tabernacle along with the loops and clasps, etc.. (vs.14-18)  What was the next covering made from for the very top layer over the tabernacle? vs. 19 - Name 2 types of skins made.
13.  Next, the make the boards, sockets, and bars.  The boards made of acacia wood formed the walls of the tabernacle, put into silver sockets, and the bars were made to connect them. The dimensions and details are given for all of these that made the sides of the tabernacle.(vs.20-34)  What were all the boards, rings, holders, bars, etc. overlaid with? vs. 34
14.  Next, Bezalel made the veil.  What materials were used and what design was woven into them? vs. 35
To hold the veil, there were four pillars made out of acacia wood, overlaid in gold with hooks of gold and the four sockets of silver. (vs.36).
15.  What materials were used for the screen of the doorway of the tent? vs. 37 -
There were five pillars made with their hooks overlaid in gold and the five socks of bronze. (vs.38)
Application:
God is showing grace in allowing Moses to come up the mountain and get the instructions for this tabernacle a second time along with the tablets of stone for the people.  This time the people have been told that it is time to build; that God wants to dwell among them!
The tabernacle points to things concerning Jesus, the Messiah, the One that would draw them close to God eternally.  Their willingness to give to the work on it and to serve with willing hearts show that they are so thankful to have the God of all creation wanting to dwell, right there with them.  They are looking for Him and anticipating His presence with them.
Today, we look back at the finished work on the cross, and see that through Jesus, God has made a way to forever be in our midst and dwell within our hearts; through Jesus we can draw near to God.  Let's take time to worship and draw near and rejoice in all that the tabernacle shadowed for us - the very substance of Jesus Himself.  Amen.

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 35

After a second set of 40 days and nights on Mount Sinai with the Lord, Moses told the people to do everything that the Lord had spoken to him. As we pick up in chapter 35, we see Moses giving the people detailed instruction about what is required of them by God.

Exodus 35
1.  Before detailing all the work that is to be done for the Lord, Moses makes sure that they understand the rest that is to be had "in" the Lord. The Sabbath day rest. From sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, they are to do no work. It is to be a complete rest; they are told "don't even start a fire in your dwellling" .(vs.1-3) With all that will be commissioned them on the tabernacle and its furnishings, I am sure there would be a temptation to work everyday of the week without a day of rest, but that is never how God intended.  Again, what did Jesus tell His disciples in regard to the Sabbath?
  • Matthew 12:1-8
What does the Lord desire more than sacrifice?
  • Mark 2:27
Who was the Sabbath made for?
  • Luke 13:10-16
The religious rulers had made healing unlawful on the Sabbath.  Jesus let them know that the Sabbath is for God's goodness toward man.
2.  Back to Exodus 35.  Moses said the Lord wanted a contribution taken up for the tabernacle to be built and the service to be put in place.
3.  What were the things that the Lord had need of? vs. 5-9 - Name 16 listed.
4.  What kind of heart were those who contributed to have? vs. 4-5
5.  What does Paul tell us in the New Testament above giving to the Lord?
  • 2 Corinthians 9:7-8
6.  Who did Moses call forward to make things? vs. 10
7.  What did he list that needed to be constructed? vs.11-19 - About 30 things, depending on how you list them when you make the list.
8.  After everyone left Moses' presence, who came back with a contribution for the Lord's work and service? vs. 20-21
9.  Who brought jewelry and all articles of gold for the Lord? vs. 22
10.  What was the condition of their heart in doing so? vs. 22
11.  Who brought the materials? vs. 23
13.  Who made contributions of silver and bronze for the work of the Lord's tent? vs. 24
14.  What is God's model for giving in the New Testament?
  • 2 Corinthians 8:12-15
15.  Back to Exodus 35.  The skilled women spun the goat's hair and the materials.  What was the condition of their heart in doing this? vs. 25-26
16.  Who brought the onyx stones and the stones for setting for the ephod and the breastpiece along with the spice and the oil for the lights and incense? vs. 27-28
17.  All the Israelites, all the men and women, whose heart moved them brought material for the work of the Lord.  Therefore, what kind of offering was this called? vs. 29
18.  Who did Moses say the Lord had called by "name"? vs. 30
19.  What did God fill him with that gave him wisdom, understanding, knowledge and in all craftmanship to make designs, cut stones, carve wood, and perform every inventive work? vs. 31-33
20.  What did Paul pray that the Holy Spirit would fill each of us with?
  • Colossians 1:9 -
21.  Has has the Holy Spirit gifted the body of Christ to be able to help one another with building up the body of Christ?  We are God's temple and building today.
  • Romans 12:6-13
  • 1 Corinthians 12:4-13
23.  God also put it in the heart of Oholiab so that both he and Bezalel would teach others how to do these skills.  How wonderful that the naturally talented can pass that on with teaching others the skills as well.  What has God given the church to help us learn His ways so that we can build together this household of the Lord?
  • Ephesians 4:11-13
24.  Back to Exodus 35.  What had God filled Oholiab and Bezalel to be able to do and teach to others? vs. 35
444511 10400263 lz
Application:
25.  Do you have natural abilities?  If so, what are they?
26.  Do you have spiritual abilities?  If so, what are they?
27.  Do you have a special motivation in your heart to do for the Lord?  What is it?  A desire to do something for Him?  What do you think about and wish you could do for Him and the body of Christ?
28.  If you have a willing heart, contribute what you can and where  you can.  God loves a cheerful giver.  Amen.
29.  Summarize this chapter and post a prayer if you would like.

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 34

Exodus 34
Broken (Law) Stones - Replaced by God
1.  What did the Lord ask Moses to do? vs. 1a
2.  What was the Lord willing to do all over again after Moses had shattered the original stones given him written by the finger of God? vs. 1b
3.  Moses was to be ready by morning to come up to Mt. Sinai and present himself to the Lord there again on top of the mountain (vs.2).  Joshua had gone up the mountain with him before although not to the very top, but he was with him when they came back down into the camp and found the golden calf Aaron had made.  This time, what are the very specific instructions of God to Moses about anyone coming near with him? vs. 2-3
4.  So Moses cut 2 stone tablets like the former ones and rose early the next morning and went up to Mt. Sinai as the Lord commanded with the 2 stones in his hand. (vs. 4) ... I bet that was a difficult climb...  Who descended in the cloud and stood there with him this time as he called upon the name of the Lord? vs. 5
Note:  Interesting to note the differences of this ascent to the summit of Mt. Sinai compared to the previous ones of Exodus 19:23-24 and Exodus 24:12-18.  These are the differences I found:
  • God provided the stone tablets the first time, but now Moses must cut the stone tablets himself.
  • No one is allowed to accompany Moses as Aaron did in 19:24 and as Joshua did in 24:13.
  • No animals are to be permitted to graze at the base of the mountain as they had apparently been permitted to graze in Moses' first 40-day absence.
  • There is no display of fire at the summit.
  • In the Glory Cloud. the Lord descended to the summit, and stood with him as He called upon His Name.
5.  I personally see this as the glory no longer being in the fire on the mountain, but the glory being with Moses as Jesus was with His disciples, and made the promise of the Spirit saying, "I am with you, but will be in you."  Write the verse out from John below and see if you agree with me in this.
  • John 14:16,17 -
Note:  Therefore, I see that God's glory has been manifested to Moses through seeing Jesus, the mediator of the better covenant to come.  By the characteristics of grace that God gives in His self-description to Moses we see the grace that came through Jesus as well.  This is such an intimate time for Moses and the Lord !
5.  What are the 7 things that God revealed about Himself to Moses when He passed by? vs.6-7 - Name 7 ... stop before the word 'yet'... we will cover it in the next question.
Note by fpjackson.org:  The children of Israel are perfectly aware that they deserved to be blasted into oblivion, and in precisely this context God says, “You are now ready because of what you know about yourself, and because of what you know about your deserving judgment, now, you are ready to learn something else about Me. And that is that I am more gracious than you could ever possibly imagine.” It’s absolutely impossible for the children of Israel, based upon God’s words about Himself, based upon their display of faithlessness and loyalty in the whole experience of the golden calf, based upon God’s unfolding disciplinary providences, to think that they have been chosen or redeemer or kept by anything other than God’s grace.
6.  When Jesus was revealed to the disciples, and they saw His glory, what did they realize concerning grace?
  • John 1:14 -
  • John 1:16 -
  • John 1:17 -
  • John 1:18 -
7.  What is the definition of grace?  Use your Bible dictionaries and share it with us.
8.  Now, let's talk about the last part of verse 7 ... "Yet..by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations." ... God will definitely continue to punish sin that is repeated through generations because the guilty are guilty without the relationship to God to make things right.  What did David say as he prayed to the Lord concerning the sins of his fathers?
  • Psalm 106:6 -
Note: There is a sense of realiizing the tendency we have in repeating the sins of those who have raised us.  However, it does not mean that children are punished for their father's sin for they always have a choice to repent and break the cycle in their own life and generation.  Let's see some passages to help with this.
  • Deuteronomy 24:16 -
  • Ezekiel 18:19-23
  • John 9:1-3
  • Galatians 3:13-14
 9.  Back to Exodus 34.  Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship. (vs.8.)  Moses realized he had found favor (grace) in God's sight and therefore he prayed that the Lord would go in their midst , in spite of the fact that the people were so obstinate.  What did Moses request of the Lord at that point? vs. 9b - Name 3 things
10.  How can we get back in fellowship with God after we have grieved His Spirit with our sin?
  • 1 John 1:9 -
11.  Back to Exodus 34.  God brought Moses back to the covenant language they had spoken of before, but He seemed to reveal even more of what ws to come in saying that there would be even greater miracles than had been seen before.  Wow, greater than the parting of the red sea?  This will be an amazing thing that God is going to perform with Moses (vs.10).  His part is to be sure that he observes all that he is being commanded that day.  Again, who are the ones that God will drive out for them to possess the land?  It is good for us to review these nations. vs. 11 -
12.  Moses and the people are to watch themselves that they make no covenants with the inhabitants of the land that they are going.  What will happen to them if they do? vs. 12
13.  Instead, what are they to do concerning their altars and pillars made to other gods, specifically their "Asherim"? vs. 13
14.  Take a moment and look up what you can about the "Asherim" and the pagan worship given her in those nations at that time.
15.  God reminds Moses that they are not to worship any other god but the Lord.  He reveals another one of His Names to him, which is Qanna, which means he is a "Jealous God".  (vs.14) ..If they worship aother god, they might make a covenant with the inhabitants and play the harlot with their gods and sacrifice to them and even eat of their sacrifice... (vs.15) ...What might happen as well? vs. 16
16.  What have we been told in New Testament living to be sure of as well?
  • 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
17.  God reinistates that they are to make no molten gods, such as Aaron had made on the prior trip up for Moses. (vs.17)  Next, the Lord mentions the feasts that will be required to be kept as well as the fact that the firstborn of livestock and in their families belong to Him.  This meant that they ransomed them from the Lord;  they were required to "redeem" them and not come empty handed in their offering for them. (vs.19-20) What is the first feast mentioned and what are we told about it? vs. 18
18.  The Lord reminds him of the 7th day to be rest for them after they work for 6 days each week. (vs.21).  What are the other two feast that the Lord say are to be celebrated each year? vs. 22
19.  These 3 times each year, all the males were to appear before the Lord God. (vs.23).  They were not to worry that the land would be coveted during the times they were missing to come and appear before the Lord. (vs. 24).  What were the final notes that God wanted Moses to write down and share with the sons of Israel? vs.25-27 - Name 3 things
20.  How long was Moses there with this Lord this time and what did he have to eat or drink? vs. 28
21.  What had happened to the face of Moses that he realized after Aaron and the others were afraid to come near him when he came down the mountain with the tablets of stone? vs.29-30
22.  Moses got them to come to him and hear all that the Lord had spoken to him on Mt. Sinai.  When did Moses put a veil over his face? vs. 33
Note: So this was not because it was so bright, but because what he was telling them in the Old Covenant was fading away in its glory to be replaced by the New Covenant of Glory - the Lord Jesus Christ - as we know today through the promise of the Holy Spirit indwelling the believer!
23.  When would Moses take the veil off? vs. 34-35
Application:
24. The glory of the Lord affected Moses physically. He was glowing from God's "radiation." The people saw him shining and backed off or ran away! He called them back and reviewed all that the Lord had spoken, then he put a veil over his face.  Why did Moses cover his face?
  • 2 Corinthians 3:12-13 -
25.  Read 2 Corinthians 3:7-4:6 and answer the following questions:
  • What did Paul call the covenant that Moses received on stones? vs. 7
  • Why did he saw Moses had to cover his face at that time? vs. 7
  • What did Paul say the ministry of the Spirit would have? vs. 8
  • What did Paul call the ministry of the law? vs. 9
  • What did Paul call the ministry of the Spirit? vs. 9
  • How does he compare the two? vs. 10
  • The one fades; what does the ministry of the Spirit do? vs. 11
  • Because of the hope of a ministry that will never fade, what can we be bold about? vs. 12-13
  • To this very day, what causes their minds to be hardened when the old covenant is read?  How is it removed? vs. 14-16
  • What happens where the Spirit of the Lord is? vs. 17
  • We who have unveiled faces are beholding the glory of the Lord.  What is happening to us? vs. 18
  • 2 Corinthians 4....Because we have this ministry in the Spirit received by mercy, what are we encouraged to do? vs. 1
  • What have we renounced? vs. 2
  • Who is the gospel still veiled to? vs. 3
  • Who has blinded the minds of the unbelieving? vs. 4
  • Who do we preach? vs. 5
  • Where does the Light of the knowledge of God tell us His glory is? vs. 6
Removing The Veil - 2 Corinthians 3 verse 17
26.  Who do you know that has a veil over their eyes for the Gospel right now?  Let's stand together in prayer for them that the veil be lifted in Jesus' Name.  Leave the name of those we can all pray together for.  Although my sons have acknowledged and lived for the Lord, they are currently not living as they should.  My younger son definitely needs to have some scales removed from his eyes.  I will give their names for prayer today:  Brandon & Aaron

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 33

Moses has come down after 40 days on the mountaintop, only to find an idolatrous party going on. He smashes the tablets, orders men to be killed until the party stops, then goes back up on the mountain to intercede for the people. God tells Moses to go lead the people into the land He had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But, He says, He Himself would not be leading them, but an angel. The people will be getting the promise of God, yet without the presence of God. The people put away their jewelry and Moses goes out to the tent of meeting to plead with God to go with them or not send them out. .....
Exodus 33
1.  Where does the Lord instruct Moses to go to at this point? vs. 1
2.  What will God send along with them to drive out the nations they will possess in the promised land? vs. 2
3.  What will the land be like when they possess it? vs. 3
4.  Why does God Himself say He will not be going up to be in their midst with them? vs. 3
5.  When the people heard this, they were sad.  What did they stop wearing after that? vs. 4
6.  Who had told them to take the ornaments off? vs. 5
7.  Where were the sons of Israel at when they stripped themselves of their ornaments and did they ever put them back on? vs. 6

Note:  Jewish Enclyclopedia > Mt. Sinai and Mt. Horeb are the same mountain with different names for it.
8.  Where did Moses go to speak to the Lord when he was needing guidance? vs. 7a
Note:  Remember this was before the "tabernacle" was built that God gave the instructions on the mountain about when Moses was there 40 days and nights, 2 different times.  He has been on the mountain the first time and came down and shattered the stone tablets that God had written on.  Now he is going out to this place before going up again for the 2nd giving of the stones.
9.  Who else could go out to the tent of meeting when they wanted to seek the Lord? vs. 7b
10.  What would happen when Moses went out to the tent? vs. 8
11.  What would happen when Moses went inside the tent? vs. 9
12.  What would the people do when they saw the pillar of cloud? vs. 10
13.  How did the Lord speak to Moses? vs. 11
14.  Does the contradict the fact that God said if anyone saw His face they would surely die?  No, because God the Father and God the Son are both God and yet God the Son showed up in Pre-Incarnate ways to many of the patriarchs.  Jesus said that Abraham saw His day and others claimed they had seen the living God and were kept alive such as Hagar, Jacob, Joshua and others.  In the New Testament, we are also told that no one has seen the face of God at anytime.  Comment on this verse:
  • 1 John 4:12
Yet, this same John, the apostle, said this in his gospel account of seeing and touching and hearing the Word of God and said that He is God - Jesus.  Read these verses and comment:
  • John 1:1-4 -
  • John 1:14 -
  • John 1:18 -
And comment on what the writer of Hebrews tells us in the verse below:
  • Hebrews 1:3-5 -
OTSM%20Exodus%2033-11
 15.  Jesus spoke with Moses face to face just as a man speaks to his friend.  How does the Lord speak to us and what does He call us?
  • 2 Corinthians 4:6 -
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18 -
  • John 15:15,16 -
 16.  Who stayed in the tent of meeting with God even when Moses left to go back into the camp with the people? vs. 11
Note:  We have seen Joshua a few times now.  He was the one who fought Amalek while Aaron and Hur held Moses arms up in prayer.  He was the one who went up the mountain to assist Moses even though he did not go to the very top to be in the presence of God with him.  He was there waiting to come back down with Moes and assist him again.  Now we see that he goes out to pray with him and stays when he returns back to the camp.  He is getting groomed and we will find out that he is the very one that will lead the children of Israel into the promised land after Moses dies.  Wow.  How awesome it would be to be the assistant/servant to Moses at that time.
17.  We have the record of the prayer that Moses prayed to the Lord and how the Lord responded back to him!  (vs.12 - 23) - How awesome it is.
  • What does Moses need to know from God? vs. 12a
  • God has told him He knows him by name and that he has found favor (grace) in His sight. (12b).  What does Moses need to know in order to know the Lord better? vs. 13a
  • What does Moses want the Lord to remember? vs. 13b
  • How did God respond to Moses? - vs. 14 - Name 2 things
  • What did Moses say to Him in return? vs. 15
  • How did Moses say others would 'know' that he and God's people have His favor? vs. 16
  • This is the same today, isn't it?  How do people know that you belong to God? Read 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 and 1 Peter 2:9-12 and make comments.
  • Back to Ex.33. - What did the Lord say to Moses in return? vs.17a -
  • How did the Lord know Moses? vs. 17b -
CLEFT-OF-THE-ROCKSexod 34
18.  What does Moses cry out? vs. 18
19.  What did God say His glory would be? vs.19a - Name 2 things
20.  Who will God be gracious to and have compassion on? vs. 19b
21.  Why could God not allow Moses to see His face? vs. 20
Note:  Again, this is why most believe it was the Son of God, Jesus, in Pre-carnate form speaking with Moses in the tent face to face and not God the Father's face that he would have seen.
22.  Where did Moses stand to be beside the Lord? vs. 21
23.  God put him in the cleft of the rock as His glory passed by and covered him with His hand until He passed by. (vs.22)  Then God took His hand away and allowed Moses to see what? vs. 23
Application:
24.  Moses longed to know God deeper; to know His ways so that He would know Him better.  This should be the heart of every child of God.  Paul had this longing so deep that he even longed for suffering to help him know his Lord more intimately.  Read and comment on these verses.
  • Philippians 3:10 -
25.  Jesus prayed for you and I to taste this glory of knowing Him and knowing God in all the fullness of oneness with Them.  Let's read John 17 and catch the phrases that Jesus prayed for us.
  • Who shall we know in order to have eternal life? - vs.3 - Name 2
  • What glory does Jesus want to have once again? vs. 5
  • What did Jesus manifest to His own while on earth? vs. 6
  • How did Jesus keep those while He was with them? vs. 12
  • How will we be sanctified (set apart) for God? vs. 17
  • As the Father sent the Son into the world, where is the Son of God sending us? vs. 18
  • Who was Jesus praying for other than His disciples at that time? vs. 20
  • What was His prayer for all of us who know Him for all time? vs. 21
  • What did God give to Jesus and in turn Jesus gives to us? vs. 22
  • Wasn't this the prayer of Moses also?  Think about it!
  • What was Jesus' final requests to the Father for us? vs. 24
26.  To know Jesus is to know the glory of God.  Amen!  How will this lesson effect your prayer life from this point forward?
27.  Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.

Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 32

Review: Let's remember that in a relatively short period of time, the people of Israel have seen God smite the Egyptians with ten curses, part the Red Sea, lead them by a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, miraculously provide water from a rock, and bunches of other supernatural provisions, not the least of which was the manna from heaven that was on the ground six days a week, which continued to be provided while Moses was gone.

Exodus 32
Intro: How can they so quickly turn aside from all that they know and have experienced? How can Aaron lead them in this sin?
1. As we have seen, Moses is on the mountain with God 40 days and 40 nights. The people must have anticipated that he would return much sooner than that. What did they want Aaron to do for them since Moses had not returned yet? vs. 1
2. How did Aaron respond to their request? vs. 2
3. How did the people respond to Aaron's suggestion? vs. 3
4. What did Aaron do with all the gold that he collected from the people's earrings? vs. 4a
5. What did the people say when the calf was constructed of gold? vs. 4b
6. Aaron and every one of them had heard the 10 commandments spoken to them by Moses. What had they agreed to concerning them?
  • Exodus 24:3
7. What are 2 commandments that have already been broken here by Aaron and by the people? Read the 10 commandments given and name the 2 that were broken.
  • Exodus 20:1-17
8. Back to Exodus 32. When Aaron saw how the people called the golden calf their "god", what did he build for it and what proclamation did he make in regard to it? vs. 5
9. What was offered to the "cow god" the next morning, and what did the people do in regard to it? vs. 6
10. God knows it is happening! What does He say to Moses? vs. 7
11. Is there anything we can do that is hidden from the sight and knowledge of God? Comment on these verses.
  • Psalm 69:5 -
  • Matthew 10:26 -
  • 1 Corinthians 4:5 -
  • Isaiah 29:15 -
12. Did God know that they had worshiped the calf and sacrificed to it as well as give credit to the made image for bringing them out of Egypt? vs. 8
13. Not only had God seen them, but God has a name for the character of His people. What does He call them? vs. 9
14. Do you think impatience in God answering a prayer or desire for you has led you into sin at some point in your life? Share if you would like. Look up this verse and comment on it.
  • Psalm 37:7-11,34 -
  • James 5:7,8 -
15. When they lost patience, they lost faith. They were walking by sight and not by faith. They could not believe what they could not see, feel, smell, touch, and taste. Are we not the same way sometimes? What are we told in regard to the promises of God for the most part.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:7 -
  • John 20:29 -
  • Hebrews 11:6 -
16. What did God want to do to them and in turn create through Moses? vs. 10
Note: This would have been a great temptation for Moses to be the new leader of a new nation. They would be the children of Moses rather than the children of Abraham. But Moses knew that God was One to keep His promises; that He was a covenant keeping God. He begins to reason with the Lord and entreat Him to change His mind.
17. Moses asks the Lord why His anger burns against His people whom He had delivered from the land of Egypt with great power. (vs.11) What did Moses say the Egyptians may think about God's intent for His people? vs. 12
18. What does Moses ask God to do concerning His plans to harm His people? v.s 12
19. What does Moses ask God to remember in regard to the covenant He has made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel)? vs. 13
20. What was the result of Moses' intercession with the Lord for His people? vs. 14
21. We hear the slogan "Prayer changes things". This is true! ... There are verses that say God's character never changes and also that He will not go back on His Word, etc. but when He has already stated something in His Word and His children stand on the promises, we can be assured that we will have what is according to His stated will. Read and comment on these verses.
  • Matthew 21:22 -
  • Mark 11:24 -
  • Luke 11:9 -

22. Moses had calmed the Lord down and interceded for the people, but he had no idea what he was about to encounter himself that would make him lose his temper in a major way! He went down from the mountain with the 2 tablets of the testimony in hand. What are we told about the tablets in these verses? vs. 15,16
moses angry
23. These are extremely precious stones with God's very writing on them. One would think Moses could have controlled himself better than he did to let anything happen to those stones! Joshua was coming down the mountain with him and he thought he heard the sound of war in the camp. (vs.17).. He knew it was not a sound of triump or of defeat...but he realized it was singing that he heard. (vs.18). As Moses got near to the camp and he saw the golden calf that was erected on the altar and the people singing and dancing around it, what did Moses do? vs. 19
24. What did Moses do to the calf they had made and how did he punish the sons of Israel with it? vs. 20 - Name 4 things he did
25. Moses then turned his anger toward his brother Aaron, asking him, "What did this people do to you, that you have brought such great sin upon them?" (vs.21) Did Aaron take responisbility for his lack of leadership? What did he say to Moses? vs.22-24 (summarize)
26. When Moses realized the people were "out of control", because Aaron had "let them get out of control", and that they were a derision among their enemies ... (vs.25) ... he stood in the gate of the camp and called out, "Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!" (vs.26) - Who gathered to him at that time? vs. 26 -
27. What did Moses instruct them to do to cleanse the camp of the crimes and the corruption of the people? vs. 27
28. The sons of Levi obeyed Moses. How many men of the people fell on that day? vs. 28
29. After this, Moses told everyone to dedicate themselves to the Lord because the cleansing would now bring blessing. (vs.29) On the next day, Moses told them they had committed a great sin. What was he going to hope to be able to do for them? vs. 30
30. How much did Moses want the Lord to forgive the people's sins of making the golden god for themselves? vs. 31,32
31. How does this compare to what Paul said about wanting his people Israel to know the Lord Jesus?

32. Back to Exodus 32. Who did the Lord said would be blotted out of His book? vs. 33
Note: Since these people did not have the new covenant of grace to accept Jesus and be in the Lamb's Book of Life, it is my opinion and many scholars I have read who believe every person is put into the Book of Life when they are born because God says in John 3:16 it is not His will that any should perish but that all have eternal life. Belief that would keep you in the Book of Life was to obey His provisions for redemption and cleansing under the Old Covenant which all pointed to Jesus. Those who chose to disobey and mock His provisions, choosing their own way over His way, would pay the consequences of their unbelief; they would lose their spot in the book of Life. In Jesus, when we place our faith in Him, we are in the Lamb's Book of Life, the book spoke of in Revelation.  Other books were opened, but that was at the Great White Throne judgment of the lost. Amen.
33. A new start! God tells Moses to continue to lead the people where He told him. Who would go with Moses? vs. 34
34. When would the unbelievers be punished for their sin of unbelief? vs. 34
35. What did the Lord do to the people because of what they did with the calf that Aaron made? vs. 35
Application:
36. We witnessed the humble heart of Moses today; how he reminded God of His promises and cared more about the reputation of God than his own. We saw his prayers move upon the heart of God and have God keep the Word of His promise to keep a remnant alive; to keep the promises alive; because through this people the promised seed of Abraham would come. Who is that promised seed of Abraham and how does that include us today?

37. Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.
