  • He prays with us ...Matthew 18:20 -

15.  Back to Numbers 8.  What age were the Levites to enter to perform the service in the tent of meeting? vs. 24

16.  What age were they to retire from the work of the tent of meeting to do no more work in there? vs. 25

17.  Although they were not to do physical work, what were they allowed to do if they had obligation? vs. 26

Jesus baptised

Application:

18.  Have you ever wondered why Jesus was water baptized by John the Baptist since He knew no sin and would not need to be converted or repent from any sin?  It was because Jesus always obeyed the Law of God.  Think about it.  His parents circumcised Him when he was 8 days old according to the Law.

Jesus had already submitted to the Old Testament law of circumcision (Leviticus 12:3, Luke 2:21), he went to the temple (Leviticus 12:2-8 and Luke 2:22-23), partook of the the Passover (Exodus 34:23, Luke 2:41), and observed the Jewish feasts (Mark 14:12, Luke 22:3, John 17:10). But what Old Testament law had to do with baptism?

Christ's baptism was the ceremonial act of His ordination to the high priesthood. Jesus Christ was (and is) a priest (Hebrews 3:1; 4:14, 5:5; 9:11). And according to Exodus 29:4, priests had to be washed with water as a part of their ordination.

Although he was not born to the tribe of Levi, He was anointed by God to be our offering for sin and also our heavenly High Priest, our way to fellowship with God the Father.  So, He went through the ceremonial washing as the priests did in the Old Testament.  Think about these interesting points:

  • A person going into the ministry must be 30 years old (Numbers 4:3,47). --- This is why Christ's age at His baptism is given as 30 years (Luke 3:23).
  • He must be called of God as was Aaron, the first high priest (Exodus 28:1). --- Christ was called (Hebrews 5:4-10).
  • He must be washed with water (Exodus 29:4; Leviticus 8:6) by one already a priest. --- John the baptist was a priest, inheriting the office from his father (Exodus 29:9; Numbers 25:13; Luke 1:4,13).
  • Christ knew His call, waited until He was 30 years old and then came to John "to fulfill all righteousness," that is, to meet the last demand of the Old Testament Law for a priest before He began His public ministry. (Matthew 3:15)

19.  Write out the Scripture below:

  • Matthew 3:15

20.  What did God the Father say after sending the Spirit upon Him (as a dove)? Comment on these verse below:

  • Matthew 3:17

21.  Today, our water baptism is not what brings us salvation, but it DOES signify our willingness to be "set apart" and consecrated for the "service" of the Lord.  It is our outward sign (witness) to all that we are identifying with the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (see Romans 6) and giving ourselves to God completely (Romans 12:1).  Have you been water baptized?  It is truly our first step of obedience in this priesthood that our salvation brings us into.  Share your water baptism experience with us if you would like.  If you haven't been, please plan to do so as soon as you can.  You will hear the voice of the Father in your heart as was said to Jesus His Son.  "

2.  What did the 12 leaders of the tribes (the ones that were selected by the people when they were numbered in Numbers chapter 2) ... make as an offering to the Lord? vs.2-3

3.  Each of the 12 leaders gave an ox, and then 2 leaders gave a cart, so that there were 6 carts with 2 oxen per cart.  (vs.3) .  The Lord told Moses to accept these to be used in the services of the tent of meeting.  Who did the Lord tell Moses to give them to? vs. 5,6

4.  What was given to the sons of Gershon? vs. 7

5.  Look back at what their duties were in chapter 4 ... and see what things they would be able to carry on the carts given them.  What an awesome provision of help this would be to them!  Give a summary.

6.  What was given to the sons of Merari? vs. 8

7.  Look back at what their duties were in chapter 4 ... and see why they would need double the carts and oxens for their service.  How great the Lord provided these through the 12 leaders' offerings!  Give a summary of what they were responsible for:

imagesCAL0QT2B

8.  Why did the Kohaths not receive a cart with oxen? vs. 9

9.  The leaders offered the "dedication offering" for the altar when it was anointed by Moses. (vs.10) ... How did the Lord want them to present their offerings? vs. 11

Note:  This would be like a 12-day festival to see each leader go through to present the offering he brought, day after day.

10.  Each leader brings the same offering.  What was the offering? vs. 13-17

11.  Name the leaders again, and note that each one brought the same offering described as the first one from Nahshon of the tribe of Judah.  vs.12-83 - Name the 12 leaders below and the tribe they represented:

  • Day 1 - vs.12 -
  • Day 2 - vs.18 -
  • Day 3 - vs. 24 -
  • Day 4 - vs. 30 -
  • Day 5 - vs. 36 -
  • Day 6 - vs. 42 -
  • Day 7 - vs. 48 -
  • Day 8 - vs. 54 -
  • Day 9 - vs. 60 -
  • Day 10 - vs. 66
  • Day 11 - vs. 72 -
  • Day 12 - vs. 78 -

12.  What were the totals of all that was given by the 12 leaders over the 12 days of the "dedication offering"? vs.84-88

ark covenant

13.  When Moses went into the tent of meeting, what did he hear from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the tesimony, from between the two cheribum?  Who was speaking to him there? vs. 89

 HJAWwz1345940079

Application:

14.  It's wonderful to see after the Lord gave such awesome tasks to the Levites who would camp around the tabernacle and do the taking down, carrying, and the setting up of the tabernacle ... He moves upon the hearts of the leaders to offer oxen and carts to be used for the work of the sanctuary.  How wonderful that the sons of Gershon would have 2 covered carts to move the curtains from place to place and the sons of Merari would have 4 covered carts to move the structural pillars, boards, sockets, etc. from place to place.  When we are seeking the Lord and His service, He will provide everything we need for the work.  Comment on the following verses:

  • 2 Corinthians 9:8 -
  • Philippians 4:18,19 -

15.  Not only did the 12 leaders bring the offerings of oxen and carts for the Lord's work, but they also dedicated themselves to the work of leadership through a "dedication service" that lasted 12 days.  Each leader brought the offering of dedication, one a day, day after day, for 12 days.  This was a public action that the people of Israel could look upon and be assured that they were dedicated to the service they were elected to serve in.  Why is it so important that leaders dedicate themselves wholly to the Lord in this way?  Comment on the following verses:

  • Acts 20:28 -
  • 1 Peter 5:1-4 -
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:12,13 -
  • 2 Timothy 4:1-5 -
  • 1 Corinthians 15:58 -

16.  We have the leaders "dedicated" to leadership, and the Levites set apart to do the work of the tabernacle, and yet, the most important thing is that Moses is meeting with God and hearing Him speak so that they know His desire and guidance for every task needed in worship and in all matters of life.  Moses would meet with God in the tent of meeting at the Mercy Seat that was on the ark of testimony where the commandments were inside.  The Mercy Seat is the picture of Jesus, our Merciful and High Priest.  We can enter into the holy place as Moses did and hear from the Lord through His Word and through time in prayer. Comment on the following verse about how we approach God and speak with Him today.

  • Hebrews 4:14-16 -

Numbers Chapter 5 - Observation Quesitons

1.  Where did the Lord have the sons of Israel send those who had leprosy, or a discharge, or had been made unclean because of touching a dead person? vs. 1-4

2.  Why did they do this whether male or female? vs. 3

3.  As we talked about in Leviticus, the unclean were a picture of sin not being able to be in the presence of God, but Jesus touched the unclean and made them whole.  He showed Himself to be the mediator between sinful man and the the holiness of God, being both man and God.  Comment on the following verses for review.  Name what Jesus touched and cleansed in each situation and notice, He didn't become "unclean"; they became "clean"!

  • Luke 5:12,13 -
  • Luke 8: 43-48 -
  • Luke 8: 49-56 -

Note:  Did you see the leper, the discharge, and touching the dead in these accounts of Jesus with the people?  He does not become unclean by them, but they are made clean and healed by Him.  He is the answer to our uncleanness.  Amen.

4.  When a man or woman committed a sin against another person, who were they acting unfaithful toward foremost? vs. 6

5.  What did David say when praying to the Lord about the sin he had committed against Bathsheba and her husband Uriah?

  • Psalm 51:1-4

6.  Back to Numbers 5.  Not only did the person need to confess their sins, and bring the ram to the priest to atone for his sin, but he had to make restitution to the person he had wronged.  He was to pay what he owed and add 1/5th or 20% to it. (vs.7,8) ...If the person was no longer alive, the restitution was to be made to a relative, and if that was not possible, it was to be brought to the priest to the house of the Lord. (vs.8-10).  Remember what Jesus said about remembering at the altar your brother had something against you?  What were you to do immediately before making an offering to God?

  • Matthew 5:23,24 -

7.  What does confession and repentance bring to us?

  • Acts 3:19 -

n

--------------------------------

8.  The Lord addressed a spirit of jealousy after this with Moses.  What was a man to do if he suspected that his wife had been unfaithful to him? vs.11-15

9.  The grain offering was not to have oil or frankincense added to it because it would not be a sweet aroma.  What kind of reminder would an "offering of jealousy" be? vs.15

10.  The priest would bring the woman near and have her stand before the Lord. (vs.16).  This would bring fear and trembling in itself.  He would take some of the water set aside for the priest, which was holy, put it inside an earthenware vessel.  What would he mix with it before having her drink it? vs. 17

11.  Her hair was to go loose as she stood before the Lord and she was to hold the grain offering of memorial of iniquity in her hands.  The priest would hold the "water of bitterness" that would bring a curse upon her if she was truly guilty. (vs. 18) ..

12.  What would make her immune to the curse of the water? vs. 19

13.  If she had been unfaithful to her husband, what would happen to her when she drank the water? vs. 20-21-

14.  What was the woman to say? vs. 22 -

m224897672

15.  The priest would write the curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the water of bitterness (before she had taken a drink....vs.23) ... Then he would make her drink the water that would bring a curse and cause bitterness in her stomach. (vs.24) ... First, however, the priest would then take the grain offering of jealousy from the woman's hand and wave it before the Lord.  Then he brought it to the altar. (vs.25)  What did he do with the handful of grain offering at that time? vs. 26

16.  When the priest made the woman drink the water, what would happen if she had truly been unfaithful to her husband? vs. 27

17.  If the woman was innocent and had not been defiled, what effect would the water have on her? vs. 28

18.  The man could bring his wife for this testing and he himself would not bear any guilt for suspecting her if he had been unable to let go of his jealousy for any reason. (vs.29-31)  .. If she was guilty, she would bear her guilt.  This would mean being cut off from her people and so much more.  It's hard not to think of the adulterous woman that was "caught in the very act" which required "stoning" under the law in Jesus' day.  How did Jesus handle her situation?

  • John 8:3-11

HJAWwz1345940079

Application:

19.  This entire chapter has really been about "uncleanness" and "sin against others".  We saw the unclean leper and others unclean by discharge and touching the dead having to go "outside of the camp" because they could defile others and also because sin and defilement could not dwell with God in the camp.  Then we had those who had wronged their neighbor being told they not only needed to confess and make it right, but add 20% to the person they had wronged.  If the person was no longer alive, they made restitution to a relative, and if there was not a relative, they gave the money and the interest to the priest; to the work of the Lord.  Then... we saw the suspicion of a woman who had defiled herself and her marriage, and the test for "jealousy" that had come into the heart of her husband.  What are we told about marriage and defilement in the New Testament?

  • Hebrews 13:4 -

20.  The woman drank a bitter cup to show whether she was clean or unclean.  Jesus drank a bitter cup, but it was our "uncleanness" that He drank.  Remember the struggle He had in the garden of Gethsemane before He went to the cross when He asked the Father ... "If possible let this cup pass from Me." ... What was in the cup?  It was the sin(s) of all mankind that He would take into His completely holy body.  He would be separated from the Father for the first time in all eternity because God cannot dwell with sin.  He would cry out on the cross "My God, My God, Why Has Thou Forsaken Me?" ... He was forsaken because He drank the bitterness of all that sin upon Himself.  He went to the cross for us, but when He came out of the tomb, He had overcome death and overcome sin.  Praise His Name!  He was not unclean; He remained clean!  He drank the "wrath of God" and still He came out "clean"!  This is the only reason why we can confess our sins and become clean because He gives us righteousness; His righteousness for our uncleanness!  Praise His Name!  Comment on the verse below and end this lesson with prayer and praise !!

Israel Enters the Promised Land

Application:

21.  Each family of the Levites had a specific task to do for the Lord's service.  The Kohathites carried the holy furnishings that Aaron and his sons prepared for them.  The Gershonites took care of the curtains inside and out of the tabernacle and carried them in their travels from place to place.  The Merarites took care of the structural items and each one of them were assigned a certain thing to carry from place to place.  It might seem that the Kohathites had the most important job of carrying the holy items, but no job was more important than the other for each had been assigned by God and everything was needed for the completed atmosphere of worship unto Him. ..... It is the same for us in the body of Christ today.  The Holy Spirit has given each of us one or more gifts to serve Him with.  We can't say to any person that they are not needed ... for every part of the body is needed to function properly.  Look up the following verses and comment on them.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:14-27 -
  • Romans 12:1-13 -

22.  From the Scriptures given above, how do we all fit together and need one another, regardless of what our call to service may be?

23.  The one who assigned the tasks to each one of these Levites was the Lord Himself through the leadership over them.  We need to always remember that when we serve the Lord, we are serving Him and not the men who may be the ones delegating the tasks.  If we always remember it is the Lord we are serving, our heart will remain joyful and be strong.  Amen?  Comment on the following verses.

  • Colossians 3:23,24 -
  • 1 Corinthians 15:58 -

 24.  Now, take time to read the parable of the talents in Matthew chapter 25.  Just like Jesus went away for a long journey, but will return to us ... we will be accountable for what He entrusted us with and how we used it for His glory and honor.  Even though they were given different amounts to handle, if they invested them for Him, they received the same reward of hearing Him say, "Good and Faithful Servant", and the invitation to "Enter into the Joy of Your Master".  He said because they had been faithful in small things, He would put them in charge of more things.  Read the parable and then comment about it.

  • Matthew 25:14-30

25.  I want to hear "Good and Faithful Servant".  Don't you?

9.  Just as the Levites were "chosen" by God to serve His high priest, we have been chosen by God to serve our High Priest Jesus.  What is our duty as a priest unto Him?

  • 1 Peter 2:9 -

10.  What are we to submit ourselves to?

  • 1 Peter 2:13-16 -

Note:  Next, the Lord had Moses number the sons of Levi by their father's households, by their families, every male from 1 month old and up. (vs.14,15)...So Moses obeyed and did so. (vs.16)

12.  Who were the 3 sons of Levi? vs. 17

21.  Where were the families of Kohath to camp in regard to the tabernacle? vs. 29

22.  Who was the leader of the households of the Kohathites? vs. 30

27.  Who was the leader of the households of Merari? vs. 35

28.  What were the designated duties involving the tabernacle that were given to the sons of Merari? vs.36,37 - Name 7 things listed.

29.  Who were the Levites that camped directly in front of the tabernacle facing eastward? vs. 38

31.  What was the number of males that were 1 month and upward from the tribe of Levi when Moses & Aaron counted them? vs. 39

32.  After that, the Lord had Moses number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from 1 month old and upward, making a list of all of their names.(vs.40)  This would have taken awhile to do.  How many names were there? vs. 43

33.  Who were the Levites and their cattle to belong to instead of the firstborn of the sons of Israel and the firstborn of their cattle ? vs. 41,45

34.  Since there were 273 more of the firstborn of the sons of Israel than there were Levites that were males one month old and upward ... God had Moses take 5 shekels per head and give that money to Aaron and his sons.  The idea was that since they would have given their service to the tabernacle, there would have been 273 more people to serve Aaron and his sons than it will be with the Levites now..God is fair and just.  He is making sure Aaron and his sons get what would have been coming to them through the consecrated firstborn males. (vs.46-49) That's awesome, isn't it? ..... How many shekels were given in terms of the value in the sanctuary? vs. 50,51 -

HJAWwz1345940079

Application:

35.  Just as the Lord strategically "placed" the families of the Levites on the sides of the tabernacle that He desired them to be and "designated" the services that each one would take care of for the work of His service, He has done the same thing for each born again believer today.  Each one of us are referred to as "living stones" and we are making up the "spiritual house of the Lord".  He dwells in the midst of us in the same way He dwelt in the midst of their encampments.  The beautiful thing for us is that He actually dwells within each one of us as well.  Our very bodies are the temple of His Holy Spirit.  Let's look at the gifts and see how the Holy Spirit designates one or more gifts to each believer for the purpose of bringing the body of Christ to the full measure of faith and good works.  Amen.  Comment on these verses:

  • Read 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 - 1) What is given to each one of us? vs. 7 - ... 2) Why is it given to us? vs. 7 - ... 3) Who distributes the gifts just as He wills ? vs. 11 ...
  • Read Romans 12:3-8 - 1) What has God allotted to each one of us? vs.3b ... 2) Our gifts differ according to the grace He has given us (vs.6)
  • Read Ephesians 4:7-16 - ... 1) What has the Lord given to each one of us? vs. 7 ... 2) When He ascended after His resurrection, He gave gifts to men. (vs.8) .. some as apostles; some as prophets; some as evangelists; some as pastors and teachers ..(vs.11) ... 3) What purpose do they serve? vs. 12 ... 4) How long will this be needed? vs. 13 ...4) What is the intended result of these gifts in the body of Christ? vs. 14-16
  • Read 1 Peter 4:10,11 - 1) What are we to do with the gift(s) we have received from the Lord? vs.10 ... 2) What should our words be if we have speaking gifts? vs. 11 ... 3) Where should our strength come from if we have serving gifts? vs. 11 ...4) Do you believe you have prodominately speaking or serving gifts?  Share with us what you believe your gifts are.

Our gifts are not things we choose from under the tree.  They are literally placed within us when we are born again.  It may take years to realize what they are.  The best way to know what you are gifted in is to ask yourself what makes you feel joy inside and a sense of fulfillment and purpose when you do certain things in the body of believers?  The joy of the Lord is our strength, so whatever the Lord has given you to do will come strength and joy in doing it.  Love you all.

Numbers Worksheet ~ Numbers, Chapter 1

Review & Intro:  In Leviticus, we studied the priestly practices, the laws of holiness, and various commandments given by God to the Israelites through Moses. In 27 chapters, very little time passed. We actually saw only two narratives of action: the day Nadab and Abihu offered the strange fire, and the time that a man got in a fight and blasphemed...... But in the book of Numbers, we're going to cover the entire wilderness wandering. Many of the best Bible narratives and subjects of study are found in the book of Numbers: Nazarite Vows; Sending Spies into Canaan; Korah's Rebellion; the Red Heifer; the Brazen Serpent; the Prophet Balaam; Cities of Refuge; and so much more!

warfare

Application:

14.  This chapter is here because the children of Israel are being prepared for war. The Israelites weren’t going on holiday to Canaan. They were going to war, and therefore the military roll needed to be taken and they needed to be mustered and organized in the camp, and that’s exactly what happens in Numbers 1.  That is a reminder to us that the Christian life is war because we will continually fight with the world, and the flesh, and the devil until we finally reach our promised land in heaven.  And this, too, we learn from Numbers 1. Take time to comment on the verses below and state why you too must prepare for war and stay alert in it!

  • What is the Word of God referred to? ..... Hebrews 4:12-13 -
  • What is our warfare against? ..... Romans 12:21 -
  • What does our enemy come to do? ..... John 10:10a -
  • What has Jesus come to give us? ..... John 10:10b -
  • What are we referred to in God's army? .... 2 Timothy 2:1-4 -
  • What do we use our spiritual weapons for? ... 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 -
  • What is our breastplate? ..... 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8 -
  • What is our helmet? ..... 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8 -
  • Name some ways that Paul fought the "good fight" and how we can do the same.  ..... 2 Corinthians 6:3-7 -
  • Name the pieces of spiritual armor given and what each one represents from .... Ephesians 6:10-20 -
  • Who are we fighting to stand up against? ... Ephesians 6:11 -
  • We do not wrestle flesh and blood; what do we wrestle? ... Ephesians 6:12  - Name 4 things

  • What is the sword of the Spirit?... What will take the enemy down? ...  vs. 17 -
  • How are we to always pray? vs. 18 -

Leviticus Worksheet ~ Leviticus Chapter 27

Intro:  This chapter is the final chapter of the Book of Leviticus, and thus it serves as the conclusion of the book. Why would God conclude the Book of Leviticus with regulations which deal with vowed offerings?  In what way does this subject serve to appropriately and meaningfully bring the book to a close? ... The book of Leviticus has been about worship ... These vows were freewill promises from the heart of the one worshipping....They needed to be careful o fulfill their vows ... and if they didn't ? .... There was a penalty to pay.

Leviticus Chapter 27

This chapter is about making a vow to God and then...breaking the vow.  It is about having to "pay the penalty" for a vow that is too difficult to keep.  Most of us have made a vow one time or another and either forgot about it or could not keep it for some reason.  This was God's way for you to pay in silver shekels for the vow that you were not able to keep.  People are valued by their age, gender, condition, etc.

1.  What did the Lord tell Moses concerning a man who had made a difficult vow? vs. 2

2.  If the male was from 20-60 years of age, what was the valuation for him? vs. 3a

3.  What was the standard to go by? vs. 3b

4.  If the female was 20-60 years of age, what was the valuation for her? vs. 4

5.  If the male was 5-20 years of age, what was the valuation for him? vs. 5a

6.  If the female was 5-20 years of age, what was the valuation for her? vs. 5b

7.  If the male was 1 month - 5 years of age, what was the valuation for him? vs.6a

8.  If the female was 1 month - 5 years of age, what was the valuation for her? vs. 6b

9.  If the male was 60 years old and up, what was the valuation for him? vs. 7a

10. If the female was 60 years old and up, what was the valuation for her? vs. 7b

11. If the person was poor and not able to pay what the valuation was, how was it determined what the person should pay to be released from the vow? vs. 8

12.  If it was a clean animal, one that could be presented as an offering to the LORD, it was given to the Lord as holy and could not be replaced or exchanged.(vs.9,10). What would happen if an attempt was made to substitue the animal that was promised? vs.10

Note: If it was an unclean animal, one that could not be presented as an offering to the LORD, the priest was to determine the value, whether good or bad.(vs.11,12)  If he ever wished to redeem it (get it back), then 20% was to be added to the cost to "buy it back". (vs.13)

13.  If a man consecrated his house as holy (set apart) to the Lord, the priest would value it as either good or bad and that valuation would stand.  How much would the person pay in interest if they wanted to redeem the house (buy it back)? vs. 15

14.  If a man consecrated a part of the field of his own property, the valuation would be proportionate to the "seed" needed for it.  How much was a homer of barley seed valued at? vs. 16

15.  If a man consecrated his field, the priest would calculate it's valuation by the amount of time the year of jubilee was coming or had already been. (vs.17,18) ... What would the person need to add to the valuation price if they wanted to redeem it (buy it back)? vs. 19

16.  He would not be able to redeem it (buy it back) if it had been sold to another man.(vs.20) When the land reverted back at jubilee, who would the field be set apart for? vs. 21

17.  What happened at Jubilee if he consecrated to the LORD a field which he had bought which was not a part of the field of his own property? vs.22-24

18.  Every valuation was to be after the shekel of the sanctuary.  What was a shekel worth? vs. 25

19.  Firstborns of animals could not be consecrated.  Who did the firstborns of animals belong to? vs. 26

20.  If a firstborn was among the unclean animals, it could be redeemed according to its valuation.  What was to be added to it when it was bought back? vs. 27a

21.  If it was not redeemed (bought back), could it be sold? vs. 27b

Note:  If a man set apart anything for the Lord, whether a person ... an animal ... or the fields of his own property ... they were not to be sold or redeemed.  No person set aside for the Lord was to be ransomed. (vs.28,29)

22.  All the tithe of the land; the "seed" and the "fruit" of the tree belongs to the Lord. (vs.30).... If a man wanted to redeem part of the tithe, he could. (vs.31) .. When he paid it back, what was he to add to it? vs. 31

23.  The herd and flock were to pass under the rod.  What was to be done with every 10th one? vs. 32

24.  He was not to be concerned if it was good or bad.  He was not to exchange it.  If he did, what would happen to both it and its substitute? vs. 33

25.  What is the final statement given in the book of Leviticus? vs. 34

 Application:

26.  In thinking about how the people were valued for the vows they had broken ... according to their work abilities, age, gender, etc., ... It was for "work sake" and not for "love's sake".  The Lord loves us and values each one of us ... So much so that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die for us.  I began to think about how the Lord values "each" one of us.  Comment on the verses below:

  • Matthew 6:25,26 -
  • Matthew 10:29-31 -

27. Jesus did not abolish the law.  He fulfilled it.  When He shared it with His followers, He even went beyond it in what we should do from love and goodwill.  What did Jesus tell us regarding making vows?

  • Matthew 5:33-37 -

28. What did James say about making promises "past" today and why should we not do it?

  • James 4:14 -

29. God is controlling our today and our tomorrow.  What must we trust Him to do?

  • Romans 8:28 -

30. As Jesus said, let our "yes be yes" and our "no be no".  We should be people of our word.  If we say we will do it, we need to do it.  Comment on the verse below:

  •  Ephesians 4:25 -

31. If we have made a vow foolishly and realized we cannot or should not keep it, we should confess it to God.  Comment on the following verse:

  • 1 John 1:9 -

A broken vow, while serious, is not an unforgivable matter if taken to the Lord in true confession. God will not hold us to vows made imprudently, but He expects us to obey Jesus and refrain from making vows in the future.

32.  Summarize the lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
