Revelation Worksheet - Chapter 2




REVELATION 2    

Note: In chapter 1, we saw that Jesus holds the seven stars in His right hand. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches. In this chapter, John sees the message given to four of these angels from Jesus, and then records them for us to know.

The four churches covered in this chapter are: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, and Thyatira. There is something for us to learn in each message for each one ends saying "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches"...each individual message has a corporate application to the body of Christ.
  1. What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Ephesus? vs. 1 - Name 2 things
  2. What does Jesus know about the church at Ephesus that are all to be commended? vs. 2,3 - Name 9 things
  3. What is the one thing that Jesus has against the church at Ephesus? vs.4
  4. What does Jesus want them to remember? vs. 5a
  5. What does Jesus want them to do once they remember this? vs.5b
  6. What will happen if they do not repent in this way? vs.5c Note: The lampstand was what brought light to the darkness, and what attracted the lost to them. If the lampstand was removed, it was saying their witness was no longer effective because they would bring more shame to Him than not. How can we make sure our light continues to shine for Him?
  7. What are some of the things you did when you were first in love with Jesus? What can you return to do that was part of your first love with Him?
  8. What does Jesus say they hate that He also hates? vs.6
  9. Look up Nicolaitans and see what you can learn about them to understand why He hated their deeds at that time.
  10. What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs. 7a
  11. What will Jesus give to him who overcomes? vs.7
  12. What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Smyrna? vs.8 - Name 4 things
  13. What does Jesus know about the things the church at Smyrna is suffering? vs.9 - Name 4 things
  14. Who does Jesus say the Jews who are persecuting the Christians at Smyrna truly are? vs. 9
  15. What does Jesus tell the church at Smyrna that they are about to suffer? vs. 10
  16. He tells them not to fear. The testing has a time limit. How long will they have tribulation before they are killed? vs.10
  17. What is Jesus going to reward them with as they are faithful until death? vs.10
  18. What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs. 11a
  19. What is the promise to the one who overcomes? vs.11
  20. How does the message to the church at Smyrna encourage you in times of suffering? Does the Lord know what we are enduring and how it will all turn out? Does He have a reward in mind for us? What can we know if we are overcomers in Him?
  21. What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Pergamum? vs. 12
  22. What does Jesus know about the environment this church body is surrounded with? Where does he say they dwell at? vs.13
  23. What does Jesus commend them for in the midst of being in such evil and darkness? vs.13 - Name 2 things
  24. Who was the Lord's faithful one and witness that was killed among them? vs. 13
  25. If you have time, you might want to research Antipas and see what you can learn about it from a Bible concordance or dictionary.
  26. Even with all that they are to be commended for, the Lord does have a few things against them. What are some of the members of that church teaching and what is it causing others to participate in? vs. 14
  27. If you have time, you might want to look up the encounter of Balaam and Balak and when they caused Israel to stumble into idolatry and immorality and share what you find there.
  28. The church of Smyrna also has some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. (vs.15) These are the ones he mentioned to the church at Ephesus also and said that He hates their deeds. Did you find out anything on them to share here?
  29. If this church does not repent, the Lord is coming to them quickly to make war against them. How will He do this? vs. 16
  30. What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs. 17a
  31. What is Jesus going to give to the overcomer? vs.17 - Name 2 things
  32. What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Thyatira? vs. 18 - Name 2 Things
  33. What does Jesus know about this church that He commends them for? vs. 19 - Name 6 things
  34. What does Jesus have against the church at Thyatira? vs.20a
  35. What does the "so-called" prophetess' teachings lead the people to do? vs.20b - Name 2 things
  36. Jesus gave this woman time to repent, but she does not want to repent of her immorality. (vs.21). What is going to happen to her because she will not repent and what will also happen to those who commit these acts with her? vs.22
  37. What is going to happen to her children (possibly meaning spiritual children)? vs.23a
  38. What will all the churches know when Jesus causes this to happen to Jezebel and those who follow her teachings? vs. 23
  39. Jesus has a message to the rest in Thyatira who do not hold to this teaching or have known the deep things of Satan (as they call them). What does he tell them? vs. 24
  40. He tells them to hold fast to what they have until He comes. (vs.25)...What will the overcomer participate in with the Lord Jesus when He comes? vs. 26-27
  41. What will Jesus give to the overcomer? vs.28
  42. What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs. 29
  43. As you review this chapter and these 4 churches, what messages stand out to you and what has the Spirit taught you through this? Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.
