REVELATION 3     Note: In chapter 1, we saw that Jesus holds the seven stars in His right hand. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches. In this chapter, chapter 3, John sees the message given to the remaining three of these angels from Jesus, and then records them for us to know. ..... We read about the four churches covered in chapter 2 yesterday which were: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, and Thyatira. Today, we are reading about the remaining three, which are: Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. There is something for us to learn in each message for each one ends saying "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches"...each individual message has a corporate application to the body of Christ. What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Sardis? vs. 1 - Name 2 things What kind of name (reputation) does the church of Sardis have? vs.1 What does Jesus know that is the truth about this church? vs.1 What are they to do about the things about to "die"? vs. 2 - Name 2 things What does Jesus say about the deeds of this church? vs. 2 What does Jesus tell them to remember? vs. 3a - Name 4 things What would happen if they would not wake up and strengthen the things that were dying? vs. 3 Jesus knew which people in Sardis had not soiled their garments. What did He say about them? vs. 4 What will Jesus give to him who overcomes? vs. 5 - Name 3 things What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs.6 What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Philiadelphia? vs.7 - Name 5 things What does Jesus know about the church in Philadelphia? vs. 8a Why has Jesus given this church an open door that no man can shut? vs. 8b - Name 3 things Who will Jesus make bow down to the members of this church body? vs. 9a What will Jesus make these of the synagogue of Satan know about this church? vs. 9b What did Jesus commend the Philadelphia church for? vs.10a In return, what will He keep them from? vs. 10 Who is the "hour of testing" coming upon? vs. 10 Jesus is coming quickly (which means suddenly). What is His instructions to the church at Philadelphia concerning this? vs. 11 What will Jesus give to him who overcomes? vs. 12 - Name 5 things (including the new names and who they will be given to) What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs.13 What are we reminded about in reference to Jesus in the angel's message to Laodicea? vs. 14 - Name 4 things What did Jesus know about the church in Laodicea? vs.15 What did He feel about them being lukewarm? vs. 16 What did they say about themselves in Laodicea? vs.17a What did Jesus say about them? vs. 17b What did Jesus advise they get from Him? vs.18 - Name 3 things and what purpose they would serve them. What does the Lord do for those He loves? vs. 19 What does He ask the church of Laodicea to do? vs. 19 Where is Jesus standing in regard to this church? vs. 20 What will He do for any person that will open the door to Him? vs. 20 What will Jesus give to the overcomers? vs. 21 What does Jesus want us to hear with our spiritual ears? vs. 22 As you review this chapter and these 3 churches, what messages stand out to you and what has the Spirit taught you through this?
