Note: Remember all the evil curses that Balak had hired the sorcerer, Balaam, to bring against the sons of Israel, and how God had spared them by causing a blessing to come forth from Balaam's mouth rather than a curse upon the people? ... But we learned in Numbers 25 that Balaam counseled them to send their women to the men of Israel and entice them to come over to their times of worship of their gods which involved all kinds of sexual behavior. Balaam knew that God would judge the people for this and he was right. God's judgment came upon those who were with these woman and commited idolatry with their gods. Do you remember how Moses was to have all the leaders killed that were involved in this, and then the plague broke out that killed thousands before Phinehas put the plague in check by intervening with the jealousy of the Lord? .... Now, as the sons of Israel are about to cross over the Jordan into the promised land, God reminds them of the cost and consequences of immorality and idolatry. Let's see his instructions on this ......

Application - How About Our Journeys?
36. Chapter 33 of Numbers has shown us how the eye of the Lord followed the sons of Israel through all the journeys. He was there with them in their midst, guiding them with the cloud by day and the fire by night. He cared enough to have Moses record the start of every new adventure along the way. Although there were tragedies along the way, they had come to the place they were destined to be at. How about our individual journeys? The Lord is watching over our paths. His Name is El Roi, the God who sees, and Jehovah Shammah; the Lord who is present with us. He has so many other names and attributes as well. Just like He was there in the wilderness as their deliverer and healer, He is there with us when we cry out to Him for His help. Amen. Comment on the following verses and state if you believe He is there to bring you to your destiny as well.
- Jeremiah 29:11
- Romans 8:28
37. The apostle Paul tells us to "learn" from the mistakes of Israel in the wilderness. So let's learn from their mistakes. When God tells us to flee immorality and idolatry, He means it. When He tells us that sowing to the flesh will reap corruption, that is the truth. When He says that bad company will corrupt good morals, believe Him. When He says that a root of bitterness will defile many, go to work on getting it uprooted. Let's not have partial obedience and suffer the consequences. With the help of His Holy Spirit indwelling us, we can and should be more than conquerors! Amen?

38. This is your story now. By the Lord Jesus Christ, you’ve been brought into this story. All that Israel went through has been recorded for our benefit. What’s your personal travel log to this point in your journey? Have you recounted it, the ways that the Lord has delivered you? Have you written down your personal journey and testimony for others to read and be blessed by? Do you keep a journal of answered prayers, setting up altars for your children and grandchildren to read about? Now would be a good time to start if you haven't. And the great thing is ...He isn't finished with us yet !! Comment on the following verse:
- Philippians 1:6 -
39. Summarize the lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
