Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 10

Review of Chapter 6-9
When we looked at Ch 7, we saw four principles dealing with God's judgments.

  • First, God works to glorify Himself, that is, to make Himself known as God in the world.

  • Second, judgment is not just for punishment, but it is also to show the righteousness and grace of God.

  • Third, judgment often takes the form of an attack on the false gods or idols of those being judged.

  • And fourth, it often increases in severity until it issues either in repentance or destruction.
Let's watch and see how these principles are illustrated as we continue our journey through the Ten Plagues.

  • In 7, we saw the first plaque of the Nile turning to blood. .

  • In 8,  we saw the second and third plagues: frogs and gnats.  Pharaoh said he would let them go to make sacrifices to their God, but when he got relief, he hardened his heart and did not let them go.

  • In 9, we will saw the plaques on the livestock, the plague of boils on animals and livestock, and the plague of hail..

  • In 10, we will see the plague of the locusts over the land and the three days of darkness...

  • there is only one plague left and that will be in Chapter 11.
Exodus Chapter 10
1.  Why did God tell Moses he would keep Pharaoh's heart hard for awhile longer? vs. 1 -
2.  Who were they to tell these mighty works to and why? vs. 2 -
3.  We need to always keep the memory of God's redemptive acts alive for our children and grandchildren.
Comment on these verses:

  • Deuteronomy 4:9 -

  • Psalm 78:4-6 -
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and asked that he humble himself and let the people go.  If not, the locusts would come and eat up everything that the hail did not destroy in the land.

Pharaoh had Moses and Aaron brought back and told them they could go and asked who would be going.  Moses made it clear that every single person and all the livestock would go with them to the feast of the Lord.
5.  What did Pharaoh say to this?

  • Who were the only ones he was willing to let go? vs. 10-11-
There was to be no compromise.  The Lord had Moses stretch his hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts to come up and begin to eat every plant that the hail had not destroyed.
6.  How did the Lord bring the locusts? vs. 13-15 -
7.  Pharaoh hurriedly called for Moses and Aaron.

Moses went out and made supplication to the Lord and the Lord shifted the wind to a very strong west wind which took the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea.  The Lord continued to allow Pharaoh's heart to be hard.
8.  Next the Lord had Moses to stretch out his hand toward the sky that there would be darkness over the land of Egypt.

  • What was this darkness like? vs. 21 -
9.  How many days was this thick darkness in the land? vs. 22 -
