Numbers, Chapter 16 - Observation Questions

1.  What did Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and On do? vs. 1

2.  What did they take action against?  Who did they rise up against? vs. 2

3.  How many renown "leaders" of the congregation joined with them in the rebellion? vs. 2

4. They assembled together against not only Moses, but also Aaron.  What was their complaint against them? vs. 3

5.  We have been told that Moses was the most humble man on the earth.(Numbers 12:3) ...  He did not exalt himself above the assembly.  He was obeying God and did not have an easy task by any means.  What do you think was the root cause of them feeling this way toward leadership?

6.  What did Moses do when he heard these things? vs. 4

7.  After praying, what did Moses say to Korah and all his company? vs. 5

8.  Moses told them to all bring censers for themselves to put fire and incense upon them.  What did he say the Lord would show to them? vs. 6,7

9.  Moses was upset, saying, "You have gone far enough, you sons of Levi!" (vs.7) ... He said "Was it not enough for you to be of the the ones in the tribe of Levi to be near to the Lord to do the service of the tabernacle and to stand before the congregation to minister to them?" (vs.8,9) ...What were they seeking as well? vs. 10

10.  Sometimes we cannot see our blessings in our own gifts and callings of the Lord, and sometimes we might be jealous of another person and the gift or call they have.  Have you ever experienced this?  Would you like to share about it?

11.  Moses knew that it was not only himself and Aaron they had gathered against, but against the Lord Himself.  (vs.11) ..... Who is the One who places our leaders today?  What are they there for?  Comment on the following verses:

14.  Back to Numbers 16.  Moses sent a summons to Dathan and Abiram, but they would not come.(vs.12) ...  How did they describe the land of slavery that they had come out of?  vs. 13

15.  What did they accuse Moses of doing? vs. 13

16.  Moses only told them what God told him; he did not lord over them, but obeyed the commands of the Lord.  What are elders told regarding leadership over us in the church?

17.  Back to Numbers 16.  What were the accusations made against Moses by these two men, and what did they refuse to do? vs. 14

18.  Moses became very angry and asked the Lord not to regard their offering.  He reminded the Lord that he had not taken anything from them or done them any harm. (vs.15) ... Moses told Korah and his company to be present before the Lord the following day along with Aaron. (vs.16) ... He said that each on of them would bring their censer before the Lord, which would be 250 firepans and then Aaron would bring his. (vs.17) ... What happened once they all brought their censors with fire and incense on them before the doorway of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron? vs.19 -

19.  What did the Lord say to Moses and Aaron at that time? vs.20,21 -

20.  Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before the Lord.  What did they ask Him? vs. 22 -

 

 

21.  The Lord told Moses to tell the congregation to get back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. (vs.24) ... Moses went to Dathan and Abiram with the elders of Israel following him and he told the congregation to depart from the tents of these "wicked" men and not to touch anything that belonged to them.  What would happen if they did not depart from them? vs. 26

22.  The people got back from the dwellings of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.  ... Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the doorway of their tents with their wives, sons, and little ones. (vs.27) ... Moses said if the men died or suffered the fate common to others, the Lord had not sent him ... but if the Lord did something entirely "new" and swallowed them up with all that was theirs, and they descended alive into Sheol, then what were they to understand about these men? vs. 28-30

23.  What happened to these men and their households and possessions after Moses said these words? vs.31-33 -

24.  The sons of Israel that were around them fled at the outcry afraid the earth would swallow them up as well.(vs.34)  What happened to the 250 men who were offering the incense up in the censors? vs.35 -

25.  What did the Lord tell Aaron's son, Eleazar, to do with the censers that the 250 men had held in their hands before the fire consumed them? vs.36-40 -

26.  What was this to remind the laymen of forever? vs. 40 -

27.  What did the entire congregation grumble against Moses and Aaron about the very next day? vs. 41

30.  Moses and Aaron fell on their faces as the Lord said this.  Moses told Aaron to take his censer and put fire in it from the altar and lay incense on it.  He said to bring it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them.  What had already gone forth upon them? vs. 46

31.  Aaron did so and took a stand between the dead and the living so that the plaque was checked. (vs.48) .....  How many had already died from the plaque beside those who died on account of Korah's rebellion? vs. 49,50 -

32.  Korah's desire for the priesthood took root and became a root of bitterness.  What are we told about allowing our anger to become such a thing?
