Deuteronomy Worksheet - Chapter 11

Review & Intro:  In Chapter 10, Moses reminded Israel of God's love for them and the ways He had blessed them by multiplying them from 70 people to a number as the "stars in the sky".  They came to Egypt during the famine when Joseph was in charge there (to their surprise).  He moved them to Egypt to keep them alive in the famine.  The new Pharaoh decided at that time they had grown to such a number that they might try to overcome them, so he put them into slavery.  The slavery last 400 years, but the Lord called Moses to go to Pharaoh and set His people free.  Moses and Aaron worked all kinds of signs and miracles the Lord did through them, and finally after 10 plagues (the last being the death of the firstborns in Egypt), Pharoah let them all go.  They have spent 40 years in the wilderness now, and they are millions of people after 440 years.  In Chapter 11, Moses is telling Israel how they are to respond to all the love and care the Lord has given them.

Application:
29.  God has made it clear in this chapter that obeying the Word would bring blessing to Israel in the land of promise, but disobeying the Word would bring a curse to them.  The Lord would give them the visual aid of 2 mountain peaks to look upon - the one with the blessing had vegetation upon it; the one with the curse was barren and rocky.  More is seen about these 2 mountains in Deuternomy Chapters 27 & 28.  What did Jesus take upon Himself for us and what promise do we have when we are in the New Covenant of His blood?  Comment on the following verses:
  • Galatians 3:7-14 -
30.  If we are under the blessings of Abraham, the father of faith, when we are believers in the Lord Jesus; then why did God add the law of Moses and what is the purpose of the law of commandments?  Paul continues to answer that in Galatians Chapter 3.  Read and comment on the verses below:
  • Galatians 3:15-29
31.  Are we still to honor the commandments if we love the Lord?  Comment on the following verses:
  • John 14:15 -
  • John 14:21 -
  • John 15:10 -
  • 1 John 5:2 -
  • 1 John 5:3 -
  • 2 John 1:6 -
Loving the Lord brings obedience to what He commands.  Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord with all of our hearts and the second was like it; to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.  Love is the highest law of all, and if we truly love, we will keep the commandments because we would not want to worship another god, or steal from a neighbor, or commit adultery to hurt our spouse.  Love motivates us to want to please the Lord and please others because of our love for the Lord.  Amen?
32.  Summarize the lesson and post a prayer if you would like.
