1 Peter Answers - Chapter 1




1 PETER 1    

  1. Where did the recepients of Peter's first letter live? vs.1 List 5 locations.

    Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.

  2. What did Peter call those he was writing this letter to? vs.1 - Name 2 things.
    • To those who reside as aliens, 
    • who are chosen.

    To those who are elect exiles of the dispersion [ESV]
    To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout [TNIV]


  3. How does Peter describe their relationship with God? vs.1,2 - fill in the blanks - "according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood."

    God the Father has his eye on each of you, and has determined by the work of the Spirit to keep you obedient through the sacrifice of Jesus. [MSG]

  4. What does Peter desire be theirs in fullest measure? vs. 2 - Name 2 Things

    Grace and Peace.

  5. Who has caused us to be born again? vs. 3

    The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  6. What has been given to us through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead? vs. 3

    A living hope.

    Through faith.

  10. These promises of our eternal inheritance in Christ gives us reason to rejoice, even though we have been distressed for a little while, if necessary, by various trials. (vs.6) ... What is the purpose of the trials that we go through? vs. 7

    To proove our faith [NASB]
    To test the genuineness of our faith [ESV]


  11. When we see Jesus, what will the result of going through the fires of testing bring to us? vs. 7 - Name 3 things
    • praise

  12. As born again believers, how do we feel about Jesus, even though we cannot see Him now? vs.8 -

    We love Him and believe in Him.

  13. Because we believe in Him even though we cannot see Him, we greatly rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and full of glory (vs. 8 ). ... What will be the outcome of our faith in Him? vs. 9

    The salvation of our souls.

  14. When the prophets of old prophesied of the salvation to come, they knew by the Spirit of Christ that He would suffer and be glorified. They still searched to find out 2 things. What were they? vs.10-11 - Name 2 things

    Seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

  15. When the prophets searched to find out these things, they realized they were not serving themselves, but those who believe in Christ in these days. How do we find out about these things today? vs. 12

    These things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.

  16. Other than the prophets of old, who else longs to look into these glorious things that belong to us? vs. 12

    The angels long to look.

  17. Because we possess by the Holy Spirit things that the prophets and the angels longed to participate in, what admonition does Peter give to the believers to keep them strong through the trials of our faith? vs.13 - Name 3 things
    • prepare your minds for action,
    • keep sober in spirit,
    • fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

  18. As obedient children, what are we not to be conformed to? vs. 14

    Do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance.

  19. Who are we to strive to be like in our behavior? vs.15,16

    Like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

  20. What kind of judge is our Father and what is His judgment based on? vs.17

    One who impartially judges according to each one’s work.

  21. Therefore, how are we to conduct ourselves during our stay on earth? vs.17

    Conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;

  22. What are we to know that did not bring us redemption? vs. 18 ....

    You were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers.

  23. How have we been redeemed? vs. 19

    With precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

  24. Christ, as the Lamb of God, that would redeem us by His precious blood, was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in the last times for our sakes. (vs.20). ... What do we believe God did that brings us faith and hope? vs. 21 - Name 2 things
  25. Our obedience to the truth that is in Jesus has purified our souls for a sincere love of the brethren. (vs.22) ... Therefore, what does Peter exhort us to do? vs. 22
  26. What kind of "seed" has caused us to be "born again"? vs. 23
  27. What is the "seed" that is imperishable and has brought this life to us? vs. 23
  28. What makes all flesh be like grass? vs. 24
  29. What does not fade, but will endure forever? vs.25
  30. This chapter has been full of promises that have been made to us that have been born again by the seed of God's Word and faith in Christ Jesus. We have an inheritance reserved in heaven for us; it is undefiled and will not fade away. Jesus told His disciples that He would go away to prepare a place for them and He would return to take them there. Because of these great promises, we are exhorted by Peter to live a life full of hope and obedience, even if we are distressed by trials. How has this chapter encouraged your faith today?
