Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 25

Review: In Chapter 20, we saw that the people heard the voice of God when Moses was on the mountain receiving the 10 commandments, but they begged to hear His voice no more because it made them fear and tremble. They told Moses that they would obey what he told them if he would hear the Lord for them. Moses has given them not only the commandments but ordinances from the Lord. In Chapter 24, we see that God is wanting Moses and some others to come close again to experience His presence. In Chapter 25, the Lord explains how He wants His tabernacle of worship built and furnished.
Exodus 25
1.  The Lord told Moses to speak to the sons of Israel and raise a contribution for Him.  What condition did he want every heart to have that gave to it? vs. 1,2
2.  What kind of heart did the apostle Paul say that the Lord loves for us to have in the area of giving?
  • 2 Corinthians 9:7 -
Back to Exodus 25
3.  What contribution did the Lord want to raise from them?  List the articles needed.  vs.3-7 - Name 16 given and what they would be used for if specified.
4.  Where would they have gotten all of these things to give to the Lord? Let's remember how they left Egypt.
  • Exodus 11:2 -
  • Exodus 12:35-36 -
5.  What did the Lord want them to construct for Him and why? vs. 8
6.  Where does the Lord dwell with us today if we are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ?  Comment on these verses.
  • John 14:23 -
  • 2 Corinthians 6:16 -
  • Ephesians 3:17 -
  • James 4:5 -
  • I John 4:13 -

7.  Who actually designed the tabernacle and all the furniture and gave the pattern to Moses to give to the sons of Israel? vs. 9
8.  What did that pattern and design represent in heaven? Read and summarize.
  • Hebrews 8:5 -
  • Hebrews 9:1-11; 24 -

9.  First, the Lord gave instruction for building the Ark of the Covenant.  What were to be it's measurements? vs. 10 -
10.  What were they to overlay the ark of the covenant with, inside and out, as well as the molding around it? vs. 11 -
11.  It was important that they not touch the ark, so they were to make gold rings for poles to go through in order to carry the ark correctly without touching it. (vs.14)
  • What were the rings to be made out of? ... vs. 12 ...
  • What were the poles to be made of? ... vs. 13 ...
  • What were they to be overlaid with? ... vs. 13 ...
The poles were to remain in the rings of the ark and not be removed from it. (vs.15)
12.  What were they to put inside the ark of the covenant?  vs. 16
Note:  This is the first mention of the ark of the covenant in the Bible. The ark was basically a wooden box covered with gold. God gives specific measurements for it. Since a cubit was the measurement from a man's elbow to his fingertip (about 18 inches), the ark was about three and a half feet long by two and a half feet wide by two and a half feet high. ... The ark was to have poles to carry it. It was to be carried with the poles by the Levite priests.
13.  Eventually, there would be more items in the ark.  What were the 3 things it would contain?
  • Hebrews 9:4 -
Back to Exodus 25
14.  Next Moses was instructed to build a mercy seat, which was actually like a lid/seat over the ark of the covenant.(vs.21)  What was it to be made of? vs. 17
15.  What were to be made for each end of the mercy seat facing one another toward the mercy seat? vs.18-20
16.  What was the cherubim to be made of? vs. 18
17.  What would cover the mercy seat? vs. 20
18.  Who would meet with Moses and later, the priests,  from above the mercy seat between the cherubim? vs.22
19.  Who is our Mercy Seat?  How are we able to meet with God?  The Greek word for Mercy Seat is "hilasterion'.  It is used in the verse below where the translation is given "propitiation".
  • Romans 3:23-26 -
Note: The Mercy Seat did not derive its worth from the purity of its gold but from the fact that it was the place where the blood of sacrifice was sprinkled in the presence of the Lord. The word for "mercy seat" is the same root for the word "atonement". It means to cover, cancel, appease, or cleanse. The Greek equivalent is the word "propitiation".
20.  Next, Moses was to instruct them to build a table of acacia wood.  He is given the dimensions and the fact that it should be overlaid with pure gold and they were to make a gold border around it.  Like the ark, the table had rings and poles for it to be carried from place to place. (vs.23-2.  Instructions were given for the dishes to be on the table as well.  What were the dishes and what were they to be made of and used for? vs. 29
21.  What was to be set on the table before the Lord? vs. 30
Note:  The bread of the presence was consecrated bread. It was twelve loaves baked fresh each week. The old bread would be removed, and new hot bread put in its place continually. That is why it is also called "the continual bread." (Numbers 4:7)  The more familiar term, however, is showbread. The table is often called, "The Table of Showbread." The showbread was to be eaten by the priests before the Lord. Instructions for making it and other specifics will be given in Leviticus 24.
22.  As with all the tabernacle furniture, the table was a picture of something in the heavenlies. Is there a table in heaven? What did Jesus say to His apostles about a table in heaven?
  • Luke 22:28-30 -
Note:  Also, this could be the table of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb as well.
Back to Exodus 25
23.  Next, Moses was instructed about making a lampstand of pure gold.  The base and its shaft were to be made of hammered work.  What did this include? vs. 31
24.  How were the six branches aranged on the shaft of the lampstand? vs. 32
25.  What was the total number of bulbs for lamps? vs.37
Note:  The lampstand resembled a vine or a tree with three branches out one side, three out the other side. A total of seven lights. It was the only source of light in the tabernacle, using the clear oil of beaten olives as fuel.  This too is a model of something in heaven. When John was caught up to heaven in the book of Revelation, we read,
  • Rev. 4:5 ...And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God
  • Rev. 1:20 "...the seven lampstands are the seven churches."
26.  What did the Lord tell Moses to be careful to do? vs. 40
27.  The Lord wanted to have a place to fellowship with His people.  He is altogether Holy and man is altogether sinful.  The tabernacle and the furnishings along with the way He will instruct them to be set up and the priests to make sacrifices for the people, He will be able to fellowship with His people.  Just as there was a mercy seat over the ark of the covenant, Jesus is God's mercy seat for us to draw near to His throne.  Hebrews 4:16 tells us that we can draw near with confidence to the throne of grace to find help and mercy in our time of need.  Won't you draw near to the throne today?  He longs to reveal Himself to you and meet your every need.
28.  Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.
