Exodus Worksheet - Chapter 31

We have come to the final instructions, spoken by God, to Moses, on Mount Sinai, regarding the tabernacle and its worship. Moses has been there 40 days and 40 nights, alone on the mountain with God.  Everyone else is below waiting for him to return to them.  God not only has intricate details about 'how' things are to be built but about 'who' He has chosen and gifted to build it for him.  God Himself is the designer, the architect, and the overseer of the construction work.  What kind of house are we today?  How are we being built up?  What role does God's gifts to us play?

Exodus 31

1.  Who is the first person God tells Moses He had called "by name" and "gifted him" to make all the things of the tabernacle that He gave instructions about? vs. 1,2
2.  What do you learn about this man? vs. 2
3.  What did God "fill" him with? vs. 3 - Name 4 things
4.  What specific abilities had God given him? vs. 4-5 - Name 6 things mentioned
5.  Who had God "appointed" with him by "name"? vs. 6
6.  What do you learn about this man? vs. 6
7.  God had also put "skill" into others that would help them build these things for the tabernacle and make the things for the priestly service to Him.  (v.6).  What were the items that they would be making specifically with the skills He had endowed them with? vs. 7-9  Name 12 things listed of furnishings
8.  What else had the Lord put in the heart of those with "skill" (also from Him) to make according to the description He had given to Moses? vs.10-11 - Name 4 things mentioned
9.  What does this tell us about "natural-born ability," about "talented" people?  Whether they acknowledge it or not, God Himself has gifted them. What are we told in James 1:17?

Note: It is God's decision to gift a man, but it is man's decision to use those gifts to glorify God... Have you been blessed with talents and abilities? Do you use your gifts to glorify God? Maybe you play an instrument or sing. Maybe you have abilities as a carpenter or an architect. Maybe you are blessed with a talent for cooking. Are you using these things only to benefit yourself? Or are you using them to bless God, His people, and His kingdom? Something to pray about and commit to Him.

10. What kind of house (temple) is God building today through those who have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? Comment on the following verses.

11.  Just as the tabernacle and later the physical temple of God was the place that God dwelt with His people, He is dwelling within His church today by His Holy Spirit.  We are called the temple of God.  If we are being built up into a spiritual house, how are we built and what role do our gifts play in building up the church?  Think about it and share verses and thoughts on this.
12.  God told Moses that he was to share with the sons of Israel that they were surely to keep His sabbaths.(vs.12)  What did this sign cause them to always know concerning their relationship to the Lord? vs. 13
13.  The sabbath was holy for them.  What would happen to anyone who profaned the sabbath? vs. 14
14.  What did the Lord compare the sabbath (or seventh) day with? vs.15-17
15.  What is the Christian's Sabbath?

16.  God is finally finished speaking with Moses on Mt. Sinai.  What does He give to Moses before he leaves to go back to the people? vs. 18

 Application

18.  God called Bezalel by "name" and He "filled him with His Spirit".  He gave him the gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all kinds of craftmanship.  The purpose was to build the tabernacle, His physical place of dwelling with the people of Israel.  Today, we are a spiritual house, being built up as the body of Christ, and we all play a role in this with our spiritual gifts.  Look up these verses to see that you have been called "by name"... you have been "filled with the Spirit of God" ... and you have been "gifted" to build up the body of Christ with at least one spiritual gift.  After looking up the verses, comment in your summary about how you believe God has gifted you for the building up of the body of Christ, God's household.  Amen.
