Joshua - Chapters 20 - 21

Apply 1 (mini lesson)
From reading Joshua 20 - 21

Quick Questions:
1.  What was the purpose of each tribe having a "city of refuge" in their portion of inherited land? 20:1-4
2.  The elders of the "city of refuge" would not hand over the refugee to the avenger of blood until there was a trial to determine if the manslayer was guilty of premeditated murder.  What would be a sure indication that it was premeditated according to 20:5?
3.  The Bible has a lot to say about having 'hate' in our hearts.  What did Jesus say regarding 'hate' in our heart toward someone and how does it apply to murder?  Matthew 5:21-22
4.  How can we rid the anger from our heart and escape the judgment according to Jesus in Matthew 5:23-24
5.  Do you have anyone that you need to be "reconciled" with?  The interesting thing it is "if they have something against you", not if you have something against them.  Maybe it is only a misunderstanding and you did nothing that they should be injured about, but if they are injured and have something against you, what do you need to do about it?
6.  The "city of refuge" was not to protect the guilty, but to provide a shelter for the ones who were innocent in their hearts and accidentally had a death occur from their hands.  When we accept Jesus into our lives to be our Lord and Savior, He is our "city of refuge".  Others may hold your past against you, but once He has cleansed your heart and has an abiding relationship with you in your life, He will never leave you or forsake you.  Have you asked Him to cleanse your heart and to become your refuge?  He continues to be that strong tower of strength where we can continually come for cleansing, forgiveness, and renewed strength.  Look up the following verses and comment on them regarding love..hate..forgiveness..refuge..

  • Go back and read one more time: 1 John 1:9 - It needs to be memorized if you don't have it in your heart.
7.  In Joshua 21 - The tribe of Levi reminds Joshua that Moses told them that they would not inherit any land because the Lord would be their inheritance, for they were the tribe that was chosen of the 12 to be the priests before the Lord.  Moses & Aaron were brothers and were from the tribe of Levi.  Aaron was the first high priest followed by his son Eleazar who is the current high priest at this time in Israel's history as they are just now possessing the land of Promise.  Every tribe gave cities for the Levites to dwell in so that they had God's ministers in their own cities.  How many cities were designated for the tribe of Levi from the inherited lands ? 21:41-42
8.  The land was now divided out among the tribes as their inheritance in the Promised Land.  Cities of refuge were set up in all the sections along with cities for the priests to dwell in among them.  At this time, there were no wars to fight, for the Lord had given them rest on every side.  None of their enemies had been able to stand against them for the Lord had been with them.  Did the Lord fail in any of His promises to them?  21:45
9.  How does today's lesson encourage you to continue to believe God for His promises in your life?

Your prayer for today:

The purpose of the Apply 1 mini lesson is .....
to help you focus on at least "one" thing that you can apply to your life from the chapters read today.

It would be great to take the time to look up the verses and answers the short survey each day.  I think this will be a great guide to helping you journal your thoughts.  Usually once you begin to open up on a subject, more things come to your mind to say or pray about.

Love you, Brenda
