Luke Chapter 24 - Assignment 1.Read the Chapter Straight Through from your own Bible at home or from an online Bible website. 2. Read through again in sections broken down for you below and answer the questions if you would like to for help in meditating on the message. 3. Conclude with summarizing the verse that means the most to you and your thoughts and/or prayers.

Luke 24:1-12 - The Resurrection The women who had come with Jesus out of Galilee had follwed after His resurrection to see where He was buried.  They returned to prepare spices and perfumes for Him and then they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.  On the first day of the week, which would have been the next day being Sunday, they came to the tomb Jesus had been laid in bringing the spices they had prepared.  What had happened to the stone that covered the opening of the tomb? vs. 2 - When they walked inside the tomb, which was like a carved out cave area, they did not find the body of Jesus there.  While they were wondering about this, who appeared before them? vs. 4 - How did the women react to this? vs. 5 - What did the men ask the women? vs. 5 - What did the men then tell the women about Jesus? vs. 6-7 -   At this announcement, the women remembered how Jesus had told them these very words before.  They left to report all of these things to the eleven disciples and to all the rest.  Who were the women that first got the news of the resurrected Christ? vs. 10 - 1) 2) 3) ..... and also the other women with them.  How did the apostles receive the news they told them? vs. 11 - According to verse 12, who ran to the tomb to look in and check it all out? What did he find when he looked inside?

Luke 24:13-35 - The Road to Emmaus Two of His disciples were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.  They were talking about all the things that had happened.  While they were talking, Who came and started walking with them? vs. 15 - At first, their eyes were preventing from recognizing Him.  He asked them "What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?"  They stood still, looking sad.  One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, "You are the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?"  And He said "What things?"  They went on to tell Him that Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and the people, had been delivered up by the chief priests and rulers and crucified.  What were they hoping for? vs. 21 - Although it had been three days since it had all happened, they said that some women had amazed them saying that they were at the tomb early in the morning and saw a vision of angels who said that He was alive.  Some of the disciples went to the tomb and found it just like the women said, but they did not see Him (Jesus).  What did Jesus say to them at this point? vs. 25,26 - Jesus began with the teachings of Moses (which are found in our Bible books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and  Deuteronomy) and with all the prophets (those we have in our Bibles such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, etc....), and He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.  (WOW..!!) When they approached the village where they were going, He acted like He would go on farther, but they begged Him to stay with them.  After He came in to stay with them and they were reclined at the table for a meal, He took the bread and blessed it and broke it, and began to give it to them.  What happened at that time to these men? vs. 31 - What happened to Jesus at that same time? vs. 31 - What did the men say to one another? vs. 32 They arose that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and others with them.  They heard them saying, "The Lord has really risen, and has appeared to Simon."  Then they began to relate their experiences on the road to Emmaus and how He was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

Luke 24:36-49 - Other Appearances While they were telling one another these things, Jesus Himself stood in their midst.  What did they think they were seeing? vs. 37 - What did Jesus show them to show that it was Him and not what they thought? vs. 38-39 - Jesus had flesh and bones in His resurrected state.  He showed them that the scars were still in His hands and His feet from the nails on the cross.  He will bear those scars for all eternity.  Praise His Holy Name. They were marveling and so full of joy.  Then He asked them for something to eat.  They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish.  He took it and ate it before them.  He will dine with us for all of eternity as well.  Praise His Holy Name. While Jesus had been with them for three years, He taught them the things that would happen to Him that were written in these places: 1) The Law of Moses 2) The Prophets and  3) The Psalms At this time, what did He do to their understanding of the things they had been taught? vs. 45 - What had been written about Jesus in the law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms? vs. 46-48 - How does this confirm to your heart how important it is to read the Old Testament as well as the New Testament? Do you pray that the Lord will give you understanding when You read?  Just like He opened their minds to understand, He will do the same for us. Jesus told His own disciples that they were "witnesses" of these things.  What will Jesus be sending forth upon them? vs. 49 - What will they be clothed with when this comes to them? vs. 49 What do you think that means?  Write your thoughts.

Luke 24:50-53 - The Ascension After this, Jesus led His disciples out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and He blessed them. What happened while He was blessing them? vs. 51 - When the disciples returned to Jerusalem to wait to be clothed with power on high, how did they feel and what were they doing continually? vs. 52,53 - Have you been clothed with power from on high?  Are you His witness ?  Do you have great joy?  Are you in a state of continual praise and worship for Who He is and all that He has done?  Why or why not?
