Jude Worksheet - Chapter 1

JUDE 1

  1. How does Jude describe himself in this letter? vs. 1 - Name 2 things Note: He is most likely the half-brother of Jesus (see the Intro notes)
  2. When Jude wrote, he wanted it understood who these believers were "in" Christ. What did he say about them? vs. 1 - Name 3 things
  3. How does he want mercy, peace, and love to be given to them? vs.2
  4. Jude's original intent was to write them about their common salvation, but he felt an urgency to write them another message. What was it? vs. 3
  5. How does this message come across to them? .... What do words like "necessity", "appeal", "contend", and "earnestly" sound like? ... Would they just need a casual acceptance of the facts or would this mean a real battle to fight; to contend?
  6. What does he say about the faith that was handed down to the saints? How often was it open for interpretation and change? vs. 3
  7. Certain persons had "crept in unnoticed" ... what did these ungodly persons turn the grace of God into?
  8. Look up the meaning of licentiousness - (I see the word license in there and remember they are saying grace is license to sin).... what does the dictionary tell you?
  9. Note: When Jude says that they deny our only Lord and Master, Jesus Christ - he is referring to the fact that they do not acknowledge His Lordship over them. They may be saying HIs Name and even doing miracles, but they are not living a holy life or allowing the Lord to be their Master. (vs.4)... Remember Jesus said we would know them by their fruit. Let's look at what Jesus told us about false teachers in Matthew 7:20-23 - Write out a summary of this -
  10. Even though these believers had knowledge of the Old Testament account, what did Jude want to remind them of? vs. 5
  11. What did God do to the angels who abandoned their proper abode & domain? vs. 6
  12. Jude compares what the angels did as "improper" to the behavior the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah did that was "improper" also. What did they do "in the same way as these"? vs.7a
  13. What does the current condition of these angels and the destruction of the cities set as an example to others? vs. 7b
  14. Jude continues to explain what these ungodly men are doing to the grace and proper things taught of the Lord. What do they do by their dreaming? vs. 8 - Name 3 things
  15. Note: We are given insight from Jude about an account that Michael, the archangel over the Jews, had a dispute with the devil himself about the body of Moses. One interesting fact we can insert here is that God Himself is the one who buried Moses and no man knows where he was buried to this day. (Read about this in Deuteronomy 34:4-6) - God did not want man to find the body of Moses obviously because they would have idolized it; the devil must have wanted to steal it and put it in sight; and the heavenly warfare must have been Michael saying, "The Lord Rebuke you." - Interesting, huh?
  16. Even Michael, the archangel, did not rail judgments against the devil, but sought the Lord to do the rebuking; yet, it says these "ungodly men" who have "crept in" rail againt angelic majesties without the respect they are due. They are like unreasoning animals. What will they eventually bring themselves? vs. 10
  17. Jude says of these ungodly men - "woe to them"! (vs.11) - What three men does he give as examples of what they are like? Name these men and look up what these men did and give summaries if you have time to investigate them. - vs. 11
  18. Where are these ungodly men found among us? vs. 12
  19. Name 10 characteristics given of these "ungodly" men hidden in our church love feasts who even eat with us under disguise? vs. 12,13 - Name 10 things describing them.
  20. Who prophesied about these men?... When did he live?... What did He prophesy concerning them? vs. 14,15
  21. Who will be convicted at the judgment and for what? vs.15 - Name 4 things
  22. Jude gives us more characteristics of these ungodly ones. What else does he tell us about them? vs. 16 - Name 5 things
  23. In contrast, what does Jude want the believers (the beloved) to remember? vs. 17
  24. What are we to realize will happen in the last time? vs. 18
  25. Jude continues to list more characteristics of these ungodly ones. What more does he tell us about them? vs. 19 - Name 3 things
  26. How does Jude say we "build ourselves up on our most holy faith"? vs. 20
  27. What responsibility do we have as we wait to enter eternal life? vs.21 How do you think you do that?
  28. What should we have on some of those who are doubting? vs. 22
  29. We should save others, snatching them out of the fire.(vs.22) What do you think that means?
  30. On some, we are to have mercy 'with fear'. While we are having mercy on them as people, what are we hating at the same time concerning them? vs.23
  31. Who is able to keep us from stumbling? vs. 24
  32. How will He make us be able to stand in the presence of His glory? vs. 24
  33. This causes Jude to break out in praise to our Lord. Type out verse 25 and offer it as praise to Our Lord to end this lesson today. \o/
  34. As times get harder on us in these last days, and men are "hidden" even in our churches to deceive us and turn God's grace into lustful passions and ungodly living, how are you building yourself up on your most holy faith? Are you keeping yourself in the love of God as you await the return of Jesus? Do you know that He is able to keep you from stumbling? Give your praise to the Lord. Amen.
  35. Summarize the chapter and post a prayer if you would like.
