Joshua - Chapters 22 - 24

Apply 1 (mini lesson)
From reading Joshua 22 - 24

Quick Questions:
1.  The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and 1/2 tribe of Manasseh had agreed to fight for their brothers and help them receive their inheritance and then they were returning back to the other side of the Jordan where they had left their wives and children on the inherited land designated to them by Moses before his death.
What did Joshua remind them of as they were returning to go back over the river to live with their families? 22:5 (name 5 things they were to be careful in)
2.  The 10 tribes got upset when they heard that these had returned and then built a big altar at the border on Israel's side of the Jordan.  They drew the conclusion that these had already turned their backs on God to serve the gods of the nations around them.  22:10-34
What did they assure their brothers regarding this accusation?
Was it true or not?  What was the purpose of the altar?
How did the 10 tribes accept this when they heard them?
3.  Joshua has led the tribes to take possession of all their inherited land and the land has rest from their enemies.  He is now ready to die.  Joshua reminded them that the Lord was the One who had been fighting for them. (23:3).
What did Joshua want them to know for certain as he got ready to die? 23:14
4.  Joshua warned them "again" to be very firm to do all that the Lord had commanded through Moses which included "not" associating with the nations or even "mentioning" the names of the gods they served.
Who were they to "cling" to? 23:8  How does the prophet Jeremiah describe this same action and  what a man was created to do?  Jeremiah 13:11
5.  When the Lord is fighting our battles for us because we are trusting Him and obeying Him and clinging to Him - how many enemies can just one person with God "put to flight"?  Joshua 23:10 -
How important is this when considering our spiritual warfare as a believer?
6.  In Chapter 24, Joshua gives his final words before he dies.  He reviews with the Israelites where they started as a people with Abraham and where God had brought them from Egypt, through the wilderness led by the prophet Moses, and now on the other side of the Jordan river in the land of Canaan, the Promised Land.  He warns them that just as God was faithful to do them good for the sake of His covenant with Abraham, He would drive them out of the good land of promise if they turned away from him to serve other gods.
Joshua told them they had a choice, to serve the gods of their forefathers before the time of Abraham, or to serve the gods of the heathen nations around them, or to serve the Lord God Himself.  What was Joshua's clear decision? 24:14-15
7.  The people told Joshua they would also serve the Lord, but what did Joshua tell them in advance?  24:19
This is important to understanding the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant of life in Christ Jesus.  What does the writer of Hebrews tell us the Old Covenant was not able to do for them? Hebrews 10:1-4 ... What has happened to the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ under the New Covenant? Hebrews 10:14-16
Therefore, what are we "able" to do?  Hebrews 10:19-22
8.  The people were convinced they could and would serve the Lord with all of their hearts, so Joshua wrote the words in the book of the law of God.
What was there to "hear the words" and to "witness their words"? Joshua 24:27
9.  It was time for Joshua to die.
What age was he? 24:29
Where was he buried? 24:30
At that time, whose bones were also buried in the land of Shechem? 24:32

Your prayer for today:

The purpose of the Apply 1 mini lesson is .....
to help you focus on at least "one" thing that you can apply to your life from the chapters read today.

It would be great to take the time to look up the verses and answers the short survey each day.  I think this will be a great guide to helping you journal your thoughts.  Usually once you begin to open up on a subject, more things come to your mind to say or pray about.

Love you, Brenda
