  • What attitude did the religious Pharisees and the scribes have toward Jesus spending time with such people? vs. 2 -

  • What would the shepherd do once he found his lost sheep? vs. 5 -
  • When the shepherd got home with the sheep he had found, how would he react in regard to it? vs. 6 -
  • In the same way as this, what did Jesus say happens in heaven when one sinner repents rather than having 99 righteous who don't need to repent?
  • Did you realize there was a party in heaven the day you accepted Jesus?  What day was that?
  • Write down what you remember about it and what changed in your life from that point on.

Luke 15:8-10 - The Lost Coin Parable

Jesus continued on with another parable of a woman who had 10 silver coins and lost one of them.

  • What would she do until she found that coin? vs. 8 -
  • When she found the coin, what would she do? vs. 9 -

In the same way as this, Jesus said there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

  • Do you rejoice like that when you hear of a person coming to know the Lord?
  • Why or why not?

Luke 15:11-32 - The Prodigal Son

After this, Jesus spoke about a certain man having two sons.  The younger of the sons wanted his share of his inheritance.  The father divided the shares between the sons.  Not many days later, the younger son gathered his things and went on a journey to a distant country and wasted all his estate money on loose living.

  • What happened in the country he had gone to after he had spent everything he had? vs. 14 -

The young son found a citizen to attach himself to in the country who would send him out to feed the swine.  He was so hungry that he longed to eat the pods he was feeding the swine, but no one was giving him anything to eat.

  • What did the young son realize when he came to his senses? vs. 17 -
  • What did the young son decide that he would say to his father? vs. 18 -
  • What was he willing to offer himself as and why? vs. 19 -

He headed home to his father.  While he was still a long way off, his father saw him.  What actions did the father feel or take toward him?

  1. vs. 20 - felt __________ for him
  2. vs. 20 - he ________ towards him
  3. vs. 20 - he _________ him
  4. vs. 20 - and __________him

The son said "Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son."  How did the father react to this? What things did he say or do?

  2. vs. 22 - put a _____ on his hand
  3. vs. 22 - put ______ on his feet
  4. vs. 23 - bring the _______ calf, kill it, and
  5. vs. 23 - let us ____ and be __________
  6. vs. 24 - for this son of mine was ________, and has come to life again;
  7. vs. 24 - he was ______, and has been found.'

The older son was in the field, and when he approached the house, he heard the music and dancing.  He asked one of the servants what was going on.

  • What did the servant tell him? vs. 27 -
  • How did the older brother feel about this? vs. 28 -
  • Why did he feel resentful? vs. 29, 30 -
  • Do you understand why he felt this way?  Have you ever felt this way toward a sibling or another person in school or at work or in any situation?
  • What did father say to his obedient faithful older son? vs. 31 -
  • Why did the father say they just had to rejoice at this time? vs. 32 -
  • Do you realize that this is a spiritual lesson that Jesus is teaching?  Have you been away from God and felt ashamed to return to Him, as if you had no right to be His child?  What picture of the Father has this given you now?  Will you go home and know that you will be well received and rejoiced over?  I know He just wants us to come home.
  • Also have you always been obedient and served Him and yet you see the blessings He gives to the younger believers and does it ever make you feel looked over and neglected somehow?  What lesson is in this for you?
