Bibleb

Luke Chapter 3 - Assignment

1. Read the Chapter straight through without a break from your own Bible at home or an online version.

2. Read through again in sections broken down for you below and answer the questions if you would like to for help in meditating on the message.

3. Conclude with summarizing the verse that means the most to you and your thoughts and/or prayers.

Luke 3:1-20 - John the Baptist: Preaches & Is Put In Prison

1. When the Word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness, he came into all the district around the Jordan.  What was he preaching and how was it a fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies of Isaiah the prophet?

2.  Certain groups of people were asking John what they should do to prepare for the coming of the Lord.  How would they bear fruit in their repentance?  What would John tell them and what can we learn from this?

3.  John let the people know that He was not the Christ.  What would the Christ do for them that he could not do?  What will Jesus do with the winnowing fork and what does this mean to us?

4.  Why did John the Baptist get locked up in prison by Herod?

Luke 3:21-22 - Jesus is Baptized by John the Baptist

What happened as Jesus was praying at His water baptism by John?

What is this showing us about the doctrine of the Trinity? (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - 3 persons in 1 God)

Luke 3:23-38 - Genealogy of Jesus through Mary's side -

Although Joseph's name is given which was customary ~ Joseph's side is given in Matthew.  In Joseph's genealogy, the seed comes through David's son Solomon.  In this genealogy through Mary's side, the seed comes through David's son Nathan.  We know that the seed is wholly from God; that Mary was a virgin, so it matters for record, but not for blood. (Amen)

1.  How old was Jesus at His baptism and at the beginning of His public ministry?

2.  Jesus was 'supposedly' the son of Joseph it states.  What are some of the names in this geneology that are recognized?

3.  How far back is this geneology traced?  Who does it all begin with?  How long has God been planning the coming birth on earth of His Son, His Christ, the Messiah?

  • Can you summarize what you learned today?
  • Do you have a verse you want to commit to memory in your heart from today?
