Joshua - Chapters 9 - 10

Apply 1 (mini lesson)
From reading Joshua 9 - 10

Quick Questions:
1.  Where were the 5 kings from who gathered themselves in one accord to fight Joshua and all of Israel?  Name the 5 countries.  9:1,2
2.  The inhabitants of Gibeon had heard what Joshua had done to the cities of Jericho and Ai.  They did not want to be destroyed.  How did they trick Joshua into making a covenant of peace with them so that they would not be killed?  9:3-15
3.  What mistake did Joshua and Israel make when they believed the trickery of the Gibeonites? 9:14
4.  Three days after Joshua made the covenant of peace with the Gibeonites, he found out the truth; that they were not from a far away country, but they lived in the land that they were suppose to possess and destroy.  They could not kill them now because they had to keep the word of their covenant to them.  What was the punishment of the Gibeonites for tricking them in this way?  9:26,27
5.  Adoni-zedek, the king of Jerusalem, had heard about the victories Joshua had over Ai and also how the Gibeonites had made peace with Israel.  He feared greatly and gathered four other kings to attack Gibeon with him.  What other kings were with him in this? 10:3
6.  When Gibeon was attacked by these forces, they sent word to Joshua to come and help them.  The Lord assured Joshua that He would fight with him and help him defeat them.  How did the Lord help with the battle and what was the result?  10:10-11
7.  Joshua asked the Lord for the sun to stand still at Gibeon while he was needing to finish the fight.  What a unique day when the Lord listened to him, stopped the sun for almost a full day, and fought for Israel. (10:12-14)  Many people think that is why we have leap year because it makes up for the 'lost' day in our history.  Interesting to think about, isn't it?  Your Bible commentaries might shed  more light on this for you if you would like to take time to dig deeper.
8. The five kings had hidden themselves in a cave while the battle was going on with Gibeon and the Israelites.  Joshua had them brought out and hung them to die.  Where did they bury their bodies? 10:27

How can you apply this to your life? ...

Your summary of all of today's lesson:

Your prayer for today:

The purpose of the Apply 1 mini lesson is .....
to help you focus on at least "one" thing that you can apply to your life from the chapters read today.
It would be great to take the time to look up the verses and answers the short survey each day.  I think this will be a great guide to helping you journal your thoughts.  Usually once you begin to open up on a subject, more things come to your mind to say or pray about.

Love you, Brenda
