Luke Chapter 8 - Assignment

1. Read the Chapter Straight Through from your own Bible at home or use an online website.

2. Read through again in sections broken down for you below and answer the questions if you would like to for help in meditating on the message.

3. Conclude with summarizing the verse that means the most to you and your thoughts and/or prayers.

 

Luke 8:1-3 - Ministering Women

1.  What women went with Jesus as He traveled from one city and village to another?  These came along with Him besides the 12 apostles He had named. vs. 2-3

2.  How were the financial needs of Jesus and the apostles met? vs. 3 -

 

 

Luke 8:4-15 - Parable of The Sower

1.  Name the 4 types of soil that the seed was sown in and the result of the produce in each. vs. 4-8

2.  Who does Jesus want to hear this? vs. 8 -

3.  The disciples wanted to know privately what the parable of the sower meant.  Jesus said it was granted to them to have the mysteries revealed to them. 

  • 1) What is the seed? ..
  • 2) Who did the soil by the roadside represent? ..
  • 3) Who did the rocky soil represent? ..
  • 4) Who did the soil with thorns represent? ..
  • 5)  What was the result of those who had the seed sown in good soil? ..

 

 

Luke 8:16-21 - Parable of the Lamp; Family Members Of Jesus

1. What is the purpose of a lampstand ?

2.  What will God do about the hidden and secret things of men?

3.  What should we be careful about and why?

4.  When the mother of Jesus and His earthly brothers were looking for Him, He did not give them any special privilege to see Him over time with others He was ministering to.  Who did Jesus say was His mother and His brothers?

 

 

Luke 8:22-25 - Jesus Stills the Sea

1.  On one of the days of ministering from place to place, Jesus and His disciples got into a boat to go over to the other side of the lake.  As they were sailing along, Jesus fell asleep.  What kind of storm came up at that time on the water?

2.  The disciples came to wake Jesus up.  What was their fear?

3.  What did Jesus do in regard to the wind and the waves?

4.  What did Jesus ask the disciples?

5.  They were fearful and amazed at this.  What were they saying to one another?

 

Luke 8:26-39 - The Demoniac with Legion was Cured

1. Jesus and His disciples sailed over to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.  When Jesus came onto the land, describe the man that He was met by.  Where did the man live? vs. 27 -

2.  When the man saw Jesus, what did He cry out with a loud voice?

3.  What was Jesus commanding the unclean spirit in the man to do?

4.  What had the unclean spirit done to this man up to this point? vs. 29 -

5.  Jesus asked the unclean spirit his name and he said "Legion" meaning "many" for many demons had entered the man.  What were the demons begging Jesus not to do?

6.  Where did the demons beg Jesus to send them instead? 

7.  Jesus gave the demons permission to do this.  What was the result?

8.  What did the people of the surrounding areas find when they came out to look at the demonic man again?

9.  What did the people of the Gerasenes and the surrounding area ask Jesus to do at this point and why?

10.  Did the man that was free of the demons want to part with Jesus?  What did he want to do?  What did Jesus tell him to do instead?  How did he react?

 

Luke 8:40-56 - Miracles of Healing:  Woman with Hemorrhage; and Daughter of Jarius

1. When Jesus returned to Galilee, the multitudes welcomed Him for they had been waiting for Him.  An official from the synagogue named Jarius came and fell at His feet.  What was His request of Jesus?

2.  Jesus went with him to help him, but the multitudes were pressing against Him with their needs as He went.  Who touched Jesus to receive a healing as He walked?  What was her problem?  How did Jesus know that He had been touched by someone's faith?  What did the woman tell all the people when she realized He had noticed this?

3.  While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jarius to say they need not bother coming now, for the child had died.  What did Jesus say to Jarius at that time?

4.  Who are the only ones that Jesus allowed to go with Him to his house to see her?

5.  Jesus told the weepers at the house that the girl was not dead, but asleep.  They laughed at Him.  What did they know for sure to be true about her?

6.  Jesus told the child to arise and her spirit returned to her and she rose immediately.  What did He give orders for them to do for her?

7.  What did Jesus instruct her parents not to do?
