1 Thessalonians Worksheet - Chapter 4

slide-02

1 Thessalonians 4

  1. Although the Thessalonians were walking in all the instruction that Paul had given them, what did he want them to do? vs. 1
  2. What did Paul say was the will of God for these believers and for all of us? vs. 2,3
  3. We are each to know how to possess our own vessels in sanctificaiton and honor, not in lustful passion like those who do not know God. If anyone transgress or defraud another in this way, who did Paul solemnly warn that the avenger would be? vs.6
  4. God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification. If we reject this command, who are we rejecting? vs. 7,8
  5. What does God teach each of us to do? vs. 9
  6. Although the Thessalonians were practicing love toward one another throughout all Macedonia, what was Paul's exhortation to them? vs. 10
  7. What 3 things did Paul tell them to make as their "ambition" in life? vs. 11
  8. Why is it important that we follow these instructions? vs. 12 - Name 2 things.
  9. Why does Paul want to inform the church about believers who have fallen asleep (passed away)? vs. 13
  10. What are we to believe besides the fact that Jesus died and rose again? vs. 14
  11. Who will rise to meet Jesus first; those who are alive at His coming or those who have already fallen asleep? vs. 15
  12. What 3 things will accompany the Lord Jesus when He comes? vs.16
  13. Who will rise first? vs. 16 Those who are alive and remain on earth will be "caught up" together with them in the "air" and be with the Lord always. (vs.17). We are to comfort one another with these words. (vs.18 ) This is commonly called "The Rapture" from a Latin word.
  14. How do you know that the 'sleep' of the Christian does not mean a "soul sleep" as some teach? What does Paul say happens instantly when a believer dies? See Philippians 1:23 and 2 Corinthians 5:6-8. Write these out and then your comments on how you would answer someone.
  15. Also, remember that Jesus is bringing "with Him" those who have fallen asleep. Look at 1 Thessalonians 4:14 again and write it out.
  16. Paul is speaking of the dead "rising first" in respect to the new heavenly bodies that will be created to meet up with their souls and those who are alive will be transformed to their new bodies immediately without death. Look at what is referred to as the "Resurrection Chapter" of 1 Corinthians 15. See verses 51-54. What will happen to the bodies of those who are still alive at His coming?
  17. 1 Thessalonians Chapter 14 ends by saying "Comfort one another" with these words. How have you been comforted today by reading these things? 18. Think through this lesson. What 2 things were we told to "excel still more" in? How are you possessing your vessel, your own self, in sanctification? How are you loving others and following the Lord's commands? Remember to "excel still more". Give your summaries and post a prayer if you would like.
