Genesis Worksheet - Chapter 28

Genesis Chapter 28

Isaac kept his word to bless Jacob.

1.  What did Isaac charge Jacob not to do?

  • vs. 1 -

Read again what his brother Esau had done in regard to this.

  • Genesis 26:34 -35 -
  • Genesis 27:46 -

(He'll do it again in the reading today)

2.  Where was Jacob instructed to take a wife from?

  • vs. 2 -

3.  What blessings does Isaac confirm over his son Jacob? vs. 3-4 -

  • Name 5 things:

1)     2)     3)     4)     5)

Isaac sent Jacob to Laban, Rebekah's brother, in Paddan-aram.

Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and told him to go to Rebekah's family and not to take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.  He saw that Jacob obeyed his parents in this.

4.  What does Esau deliberately do to cause his parents more pain?

  • vs. 8-9

Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran.  He came to a certain place and spent the night there because the sun had set.  He took one of the stones to put under his head and laid down there.

5. Jacob had a dream.  What did he see in this dream?

  • vs. 12 -

6. What did he see ascending and descending upon it?

  • vs. 12 -

How does this dream compare with what Jesus told one of His disciples about what he would see?

  • John 1:49- 51 -

When did Jesus appear in the sky when the disciples may have seen angels doing this very thing?

  • Acts 1:9-11 -

When will Jesus appear in the sky again when they and all those who have believed in Him may see angels doing this very thing?

  • Revelation 19:11-16 -

Jesus is the ladder between man and God.  He is the bridge that connects earth to heaven.

What do these verses tell you?

  • John 14:6 -
  • 1 Timothy 2:5

Just as Abraham 'saw the Lord's day' and rejoiced as he looked upon Mount Moriah on the day he was asked to sacrifice Isaac ... this was Jacob's vision from the Lord to most likely show him the 'Lord's day' as well.

Those in the Old Testament heard of the Messiah to come and as they believed, they were saved by faith ... in our days, we look back on the Messiah who came and fulfilled the Scriptures.

We believe in His death, burial, and resurrection, that He is the Son of God..and we are saved by faith.  Amen.

Back to Genesis 28:

7. Who stood above the ladder and what words did He say?

  • vs. 13-15 -

8. What was special about the very land that Jacob was lying on that night?

  • vs. 13 -

  • vs. 14 -

10. What families of the earth would be blessed through Jacob's 'seed'?

  • vs. 14 -

11. What promise did the Lord give Jacob?

  • vs. 15 -

12. When Jacob awoke, he knew the Lord was in that place.  How did he feel about the fact that God had spoken to him in his dream?

  • vs. 17 -

Jacob rose early in the morning, took the stone that he had put under his head ... and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on its top.

13. What did Jacob call the place?

  • Look up what this word means in a Bible dictionary:

The city had previously been Luz.

15.  Upon returning to that land protected, what would the stone become and what would Jacob give to the Lord?
