Mark Worksheet - Chapter 3

Worksheet - Mark 3

Review of Chapter 2:

  • 1) We saw the four friends take the roof off the house to get their paralytic friend's need to Jesus.  Jesus honored their faith, healed the man's sin and then healed him physically to show the religious leaders that He truly had the authority (as God) to forgive sins.
  • 2) Jesus called Levi (Matthew) to follow Him.  Matthew was a tax-collector and when they ate at his home, it was with sinners.  Jesus told the religious leaders that He didn't come to save the righteous (those who trust their own righteousness), but sinners (those who know they need a Savior).
  • 3) The new wine (His Spirit, New Covenant) must have a new wineskin (vessel) to dwell in.  Are we born again?
  • 4) Jesus allowed His disciples to eat on the Sabbath Day, even to pick grain to eat.  He told the religious leaders that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.  He always showed that the way of grace was not legalism and the way of love was not lording over.  Amen.

Mark, Chapter 3:

1.  Jesus entered again into a synagogue to teach.  There was a man there with a withered hand.  The Pharisees were watching to see if He would heal the man on the Sabbath.  They wanted to find grounds of accusation against Jesus for breaking the law of the Sabbath that no man was to work.  Jesus knew what they were thinking and He called the man to Himself and healed him.

  • What did Jesus say to the religious leaders? vs. 4 -
  • What did Jesus feel toward them? vs. 5 -

Ponder:  What kind of anger would Jesus, the sinless lamb of God, have, that could be justified anger and not sin?

2.  We are  actually commanded to have anger that is righteous; anger for things that make God Himself angry.  Yet, we are taught how to handle our anger.

Comment on the verse below:

Ephesians 4: 26,27

  • How long should we stay angry?
  • If we stay angry longer than this, what are we giving the devil?

Ephesians 4:31 - What 5 emotional sins are we to put away from ourselves?

Use a dictionary to get a good definition of each of these listed.

  • 1)
  • 2)
  • 3)
  • 4)
  • 5)

Ephesians 4:32 - What 3 emotions are given to us to be toward one another instead?

  • 1)
  • 2)
  • 3)

3.  After Jesus healed the man of the withered hand in the synagogue on that Sabbath day, the Pharisees went out and began taking counsel with the Herodians against Jesus as to how they might 'destroy' Him.  Jesus withdrew to the sea with His disciples.  A great multitude from Galilee followed them.  They came from all the surrounding areas as well - Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, Tyre and Sidon.  As the people heard of all that He was doing, they came to see Him for themselves.  Jesus got in a boat and taught from the boat to the multitude of people because they crowded Him so much.

  • Why did they want to 'touch' Jesus? vs. 10 -

4.  Jesus encountered unclean spirits.

  • Whenever the unclean spirits beheld Jesus, what would they do? vs. 11 -
  • What did Jesus warn them not to do? vs. 12 -
  • We discussed the reasons why in Mark Chapter 1 if you want to refer back to that lesson.

5.  Jesus went up to a mountain and asked those He wanted to be His disciples to come to Him there.

What did He appoint these 12 disciples to do? Name 3 things from vs.14-15 -

  • 1)
  • 2)
  • 3)

6.  Name the 12 that Jesus appointed that day from vs. 16-19

  • 1)

  • 4)
  • 5)
  • 6)
  • 7)
  • 8)
  • 9)
  • 10)
  • 11)
  • 12)

7.  When Jesus came home, the multitude gathered again.  How pressing were the needs on Jesus and His disciples? vs. 20 -

8.  Being back home, Jesus had His own family to deal with.

  • What did Jesus' own people (those of His family and ones He had known growing up)  think of Him and plan to do with Him? vs. 21 -

How did Jesus teach His disciples concerning how His light and His life within us brings a sword that divides rather than peace that unites many times even among those closest to us?

  • Matthew 10:34-39 -
  • Does this encourage you in your home and among your family members to know that Jesus experienced this as well and He understands what you are going through?

9.  What did the scribes of the Law who came down from Jerusalem say about Jesus? vs. 22 -

10. Jesus made some statements regarding those who would say that He got his powers from Satan.  Write them out below:

  • 1) vs. 23 -
  • 2) vs. 24 -
  • 3) vs. 25 -
  • 4) vs. 26 -
  • 5) vs. 27 -
  • 6) vs. 28-30 -

11.  Jesus' own mother (Mary) and His own brothers (these would be half-brothers since the Holy Spirit caused Jesus' to be in Mary's womb and He did not have a biological father)..arrived...and they were standing outside.  They sent a word to Him to call to Him.

  • Who did Jesus say were His mother and brothers? vs. 31-34 -
  • If Jesus' did not put more honor on His mother than all of His followers, should we?  What do you think?

Review & Reflect:

  • 1. What are things that should cause us to have righteous anger?
  • How are we to handle our anger?
  • 2.  What kind of negative emotions do we need to rid ourselves of by His command?
  • 3.  What kind of positive emotions are we to have toward others?
  • 4. How was Jesus received by the people in His own hometown and in His family?
  • Does this help us understand that we will go through the same thing many times?
  • 5. How did the religious rulers of the time judge Jesus when He walked in the power of God's anointing?
  • Does this help us understand that we will go through this as well sometimes?
  • 6. What causes Jesus' to think of us as His own family? - vs. 34 -
