Genesis Worksheet - Chapter 49

Genesis Chapter 49

 Jacob's time to die had come upon him.

1.  How does the New Testament look back to describe it?
  • Hebrews 11:21 -

 

Remember that Jacob's name was changed to Israel by God.  Jacob's 12 sons would be the 12 tribes of Israel.

Jacob asked that all the sons be gathered to his side as he told them what would befall of them in the days to come.

2.  Summarize what is said about each son:

  • Reuben - vs. 3 -
  • Why will he not have preeminence as the firstborn? vs. 4 -
  • Simeon & Levi - vs. 5-6 -
  • When did Simeon & Levi show such anger that is now going to reap the consequences thereof?

  • Who will praise him?
  • What does it mean the scepter will not depart from Judah?  Who comes from the loins of Judah? vs. 10-12

  • Who lived later in the area of Zebulun & Naphtali?  What prophecy was fulfilled from the prophet Isaiah there?

  • Issachar - vs. 14-15 -

 (Jacob pauses midway through his series of blessings to utter a brief prayer for God's help.  vs. 18 - "For Your salvation I wait, O Lord.")

    6.  What did Jacob do when he finished these instructions? vs. 33

    7.  How old was he when he died?
