Genesis - Worksheet Chapter 3

Genesis, Chapter 3

The Fall Of Man; Origin of Sin

1.  Who was speaking through the serpent to the woman in vs. 1?  Does Scripture tell us who the 'serpent' was?

Write what you learn from these references below.

  • 2 Corinthians 11:3 -
  • Revelation 12:9 -

The first words to the human race from the crafty serpent changed the course of human history.

"Indeed, has God said...?"

By causing the woman to doubt God's word, Satan brought his evil rebellion into God's perfect world.  If he could bring her to doubt God's love, he could cause her to rebel as he had done in the heavenly realm.

2. Was Satan created evil and rebellious?

  • What was his beginnings?
  • How did he become God's arch enemy?

Read a lesson I wrote for RTB in the past that covers this question by clicking this link: here.  Write out any comments you may want to remember.

3.  Satan's tactic to tempt us the same as it was with Eve in the Garden of Eden.  His strategy is to drive a wedge of doubt into our relationship with God.

He gets us to question God's Word, God's motive & love for us, and he twists our thinking to ignore the dire warnings and consequences given for our choices.

See the pattern that is often repeated and comment on these below:

  • Matthew 4:1-11 -
  • I John 2:15-17 -
  • James 1:13-15 -

4.  What is the first question Satan presents the woman with? vs. 1

5.  What is the woman's answer to him? vs. 2 - 3?

6.  What was Satan's contradiction to what God had said? vs. 4

Satan tried to get her to feel that God had left her 'without' something, that there was something 'more' to discover that had been 'withheld' from her.

But this was distorted and a lie.  She was made in God's image and had all the knowledge she needed.

7.  Has the enemy ever deceived you into thinking these type of things;

  • that God was holding out on you...
  • that His Word could not be trusted...
  • that He didn't care about you personally?

Share if you would like to.

What should you always remember when you are tempted to doubt God's love and His promises?

  • John 10:10 -
  • John 8:44 -
  • Who is the liar?
  • Is it ever God?

8.  What 3 things made this temptation irresitable to the woman?  vs. 6

  • 1)
  • 2)
  • 3)

She made the decision to listen to the lie of Satan rather than the truth, love, and protection of God the Father.  She offered the same to her husband and he partook of it with her..

9. What did the two of them realize after they ate of this fruit and what did they do about it? vs. 7

Their relationship to God and to one another has now changed.  Instead of walking in fellowship with Him, they are running and hiding from Him.  Instead of taking responsibility for their own actions, they pass the blame to another. vs. 8 - 13

10.  Who did the man blame it on?  vs. 12

11.  Who did the woman blame it on? vs. 13

Regardless of how they tried to pass the buck, each one had to face the consequences of their actions.

12. What would change for the serpent? vs. 14

Genesis 3:15 is a critical piece of information.  Follow the words closely and let's think through it.

God will put enmity between the serpent and the woman .... between his 'seed' and her 'seed'; He (the seed of the woman) would bruise (literally crush) the serpent on the head, and the serpent would bruise Him (the seed of the woman) on the heel.

The crush to the head of the serpent would be fatal.  The bruise to the heel of the seed of the woman would be seen on calvary's cross when the nails went into the feet of the 'seed',

God's 'seed' for us who will crush the head of the serpent with the final blow when He comes back to set up His kingdom and destroy the evil one's kingdom and existence.

Comment on these Scriptures:

  • Romans 16:20 -
  • Revelation 20:10 -

13. Was Jesus referred to as a 'seed' to come otherwise?  Oh yes.  He is the 'holy seed' that was promised to Abraham and all those who would be believers.

Comment on:

  • Galatians 3:16 -
  • Galatians 3: 7-14

When we look at the geneology of our Messiah, Christ Jesus, we see that His lineage went all the way back to a son of Adam and Eve, named "Seth".

Comment on:

  • Luke 4:23 -
  • Luke 4: 38 -

14. What was the consequence for the woman's actions? vs. 16

15. What was the consequence for the man's actions? vs. 17 - 19

16.  What did Adam name Eve and what does her name mean? vs. 20

They did have a death spiritually as God told them they would surely die.  They are now separated from God's intimate fellowship in the Garden.

Yet, God performed the first picture of redemption for us to show us of the lamb 'the seed' to come.  He allowed the blood to be spilled from the first sacrifice and  took the skin of the animal and clothed them.  (vs. 21) -

Is that not precious?

17.  Why did the couple have to be sent out from the Garden of Eden?

  • What tree was there that they might eat from and if they did, how long would they live?  vs. 22 - 23

18.  What did God do to protect the Garden of Eden from humans ever seeing it or entering it again?  vs. 24

19.  Will we one day see the Tree of Life and eat from it?

Comment on:

  • Revelation 22:1-2 -

20.  Will you be with the Lord in that city one day?  Have you received the gift of eternal life through faith in the Promised 'seed' who came and died to conquer the results of sin and death so that you would no longer be a slave of the evil one?

You can make sure of your salvation today by believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead for your sins and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord/Master.  Praying you will give your life to Him today.  The Bible says when you do that, you pass right then from death into life eternal.

Comment On These:

  • Romans 10: 9,10 -
  • I John 5:11 - 13 -
