Matthew Worksheet - Chapter 24

Matthew Chapter 24

This entire chapter deals with Christ's return to earth.  He gave His disciples a 'private talk' concerning these things.

I hope I can set the context up for you to help it be understood better.

In verse 1-3, Jesus had just come out of the temple in Jerusalem.  The disciples who were Jews had just pointed out the temple buildings to Him.

He has just told them that there would not be one stone left, but all would be torn down.  We know historically that happened after Jesus resurrected in 70 A.D.

So it is a Jewish setting and Jesus is speaking to the Jewish people (His disciples).  It is important to see how the nation of Israel is placed in end-time prophecy and it will help you in your interpretation skills so much.

1.  List below the signs that Jesus gave to this Jewish listening audience (His disciples):

  • vs. 5 -
  • vs. 6,7 -
  • vs. 7 - pt.2 -

2.  All these, He said, are merely the beginning of birth pangs.  Then...what will happen?

  • vs. 9 -
  • vs. 9 -
  • vs. 9 -
  • vs. 10 -
  • vs. 10 -
  • vs. 11 -
  • vs. 12 -
  • vs. 14 -

3.  Who will be saved through all of this? vs. 13 -

Okay, a quick little lesson from my years of prophecic study of the books of Daniel, Revelation, 2 Thessalonians and all the cross references of the prophets of the Old Testament....

When you make the drawings and you look at all of it, you see that Israel will be hated by all and many will be killed.  There will be a remnant that escapes to the mountains when the AntiChrist comes into the rebuilt temple they will be worshipping in - when he comes in to say he is God and demands their worship - they are to flee to the mountains where God has a place prepared for them.  This helps to understand why they are not to return to the house to get their cloak, etc. but to leave in haste.  It also explains why Jesus says to pray it will not be on a Sabbath or in the winter.  They will be traveling on foot and exposed to the weather.

According to Daniel and Revelation, the Lord will take care of them for 3 and 1/2 years and they will be kept from the terror of the AntiChrist.  This is the remnant that will see Him when He comes with the clouds at the end of that time.  They are the ones that I believe will be saved because they endured to the end.  That is my belief and I don't personally think it speaks of losing our salvation.  I believe that the church will have already been caught up in the clouds before this time and that we will be returning with Him when He comes to the mount and to reign on the earth for 1000 years.  I know that is a lot to read and take in and of course, I will be glad to give supporting Scriptures for all that I share.

4.  Take time to read Daniel 12 which will help you understand the Abomination of Desolation that Jesus is talking about.

Daniel 12 Notes

  • Who stands guard over the sons of Daniel's people?  Who would Daniel's people be? vs. 1 -
  • What kind of distress will happen to the nation that Daniel belongs to at that time? vs. 1 -
  • Who will be rescued? vs. 1 -
  • What will happen to those who died in faith at that time?  What will happen to the people that were not believers? vs. 2 -
  • At the time all of this happens, who will shine bright and lead others to righteousness? vs. 3 -
  • Would Daniel ever see these things fulfilled in his own lifetime?  vs. 13 -
  • What was Daniel to do with the words that had been given him at that time? vs. 4 -

Daniel saw the angelic figures on the bank of the river and he asked them how long it would be until the end of this dreadful time on his people?

  • What was the answer given? vs. 7 -

Daniel heard the words and wrote them down for us today, but at that time he could not understand at all.

  • What was he told? vs. 9-10 -
  • How many days would the distress happen from the time the Abomination of Desolation is set up? vs. 11 -

If you do the math, that is 3 and 1/2 years of time.

We can watch the nation of Israel and know the signs are here and coming faster all the time.  They have been in the news every day for the last couple of years.  Now, the country of Iran is threatening their existence and we see the nations of the world getting involved in this.  It is all around God's nation, Israel, who we are learning about in Genesis is Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham.

It won't be long.  I pray we are ready to be caught up in the air and forever be with the Lord.

5.  Let's end on a positive note!

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 -
