Matthew Chapter 3

The Preaching of John the Baptist

1. Where was John the Baptist preaching at and what was his message? (v.1,2)

2. What prophecy from the Old Testament did John fulfill? (v.3)

3. How did John dress and what did he eat? (v.4)

4.  The people of Jerusalem, Judea, and all the districts around the Jordan river were going out to John to be baptized.  What did they do as they were baptized? (vs.6)

5.  The Pharisees and the Sadducees were coming out to be baptized, but John had some words to say to them.  What did he tell them? (vs.7-12)

6.  What does John's words to the religious leaders of that day remind us of in regard to religious experiences today?  Can our heritage save us?  Our church membership?  What is the evidence of a true relationship with the Lord Jesus?

7.  How will being baptized in Jesus be different from that of John's?  What was the purpose of John's baptsim for the people of Israel and what would be the purpose of all who would be baptized into Jesus?

8.  Have you been baptized since your repentance of sin and faith in Christ?  Share your baptism experience and what it meant to you.  What does Romans Chapter 6 tell you it accomplished?

The Baptism of Jesus

1.  Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan to be baptized by John as well.  Although He did not have sin to confess, why did He say it was necessary that He be baptized? v.14,15

2.  Immediately when Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened.  What did John see?  What did John hear?  (vs.16-17)
