Matthew Worksheet - Chapter 23

Matthew Chapter 23

Pharisaism Exposed

Jesus spoke to the multitudes and His disciples about the scribes and the Pharisees.

Because they taught the law of Moses - Jesus said do and observe all that they said - But, He told them not to follow their deeds because they said things they did not do themselves.

  • They gave jobs to men to do that they were unwilling to do themselves.
  • They did all their deeds to be noticed by men.
  • They loved their high positions.

We are not suppose to look to others that are fathers, teachers, and leaders in a superior way.  We have One God, our Father.  They are gifted to teach or to lead but they are to serve others in that gift and not exalt themselves above others.  It doesn't mean we can't acknowledge their gift or even esteem them highly for their service to the Lord, but it does mean they are not to be elevated above others.

1.  What will happen to those who exalt themselves above others? vs. 12 -

2.  What will happen to those who are humble and serve others? vs. 12 -
