  1. Matthew Chapter 6

    Alms & Prayers

    1. What does Jesus warn us against in vs. 1? What do we lose if we do this? don't do anything for show, or else you will lose your reward in Heaven.

    2. When giving alms (offerings), how are we to give them? Who will reward us if we give in this way? vs. 2 - 4
We are to give them quietly and not let " our right hand know what our left hand is doing" . For what we do in secret, our Father in Heaven will reward us publicly in Heaven

    3. There is private prayer and there is public prayer and both have a purpose in the life of believers. What is the motive we should always guard against? vs. 5 don't be hypocritical, and pray to be seen but pray in earnest and from our hearts

When we pray in secret, what can we be sure of? vs. 6 That our Father will hear our prayers, done quietly, and not for the show like those that pray on the street corners are.

When we pray in secret, what can we be sure of? vs. 6

    4. What should we guard against doing in our prayer life? vs. 7 not using vain repetittions that have no meaning, but to pray from our heart in sincerity.

God knows our needs even before we ask Him. (vs.8) We don't have to impress Him with any kind of repetition. Jesus gave the 'pattern' of a way to pray and many call it "The Lord's Prayer".

    The Lord's Prayer (A Pattern)

vs. 9 - (praise) - Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name

vs. 10 - (in His will) - Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven

vs. 11 - (for our needs) - Give us this day our daily bread

vs. 12 - (for forgiveness; forgiving others) - and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us

vs. 13 - (deliverance from evil) - Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil

vs. 13 - (praise) - -for Yours is the kingdom, and the Power, and the glory forever!!

    5. What condition must be met befor-We have to forgive as God has forgiven us, for if we don't forgive those who we have seen, how can we trust and believe God who we have not seen, to forgive us?

    Fasting & Finances

    6. How are we to present ourselves when we are fasting? vs. 16 - 18
We are not to be like the hypocrites, but to anoint our head, and to wash our faces, and go about as normal, not as the hypocrites do, for a show so that everyone knows they are fasting

    7. Where are we to put our treasures and what is proven by what we treasure in time, talents, etc.? vs. 19-21 lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven
    8. Why is it important what we allow our eyes to look upon? vs. 22 - 23
We need to look on good things, not bad, for the eye is the window to the soul, and if we look at bad things long enough, they can corrupt our minds and thinking.

    9. What will happen if we try to serve God and serve material things? vs. 24 24we will end up hating one and loving the other, for we cannot serve both God and mammon

    Cure For Anxiety

    10. What three things should we not be anxious about? vs. 25 - what we eat or drink, or wear,

    11. What example are we to observe to know God will feed us? vs. 26-27 -
we are to look at the birds and how God takes care of them, and how much more worth we are and how he will not forsake us, but will ALWAYS take care of us,
    12. What example are we to observe to know God will clothe us? vs. 28-30 -The lilies of the field God cares for and yet Solomon, who was a King and had lots of beauty, was no more beautiful then them.

God knows that you need these things.

    13. What can you do to assure that these things will be supplied for you? vs. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We should not worry about tomorrow.
