Matthew Worksheet - Chapter 22

Matthew Chapter 22

Parable of the Marriage Feast

Jesus gives another parable to the Jewish leaders.  He has just finished the parable of the landowner explaining that the vineyard would be given to a people who would bear the fruit of it.

This parable is also speaking of those who were invited first (the Jews indicated), but they had reasons they did not want to follow Him.  The Gospel that went out to all the Gentiles that were willing to follow Him.  See the highlighted note section below on the lesson before this one from Acts 13 and it will help you understand this even more.

1.  Where were they to go to invite those to come? vs. 8 - 9

2.  Who all were gathered to come? vs. 10

3.  What happened to the guest that came without being properly clothed (obviously not a true believer in Jesus)? vs. 11-13

Many are called, but few are chosen.  In other words, God calls the entire world to follow Him, but few choose the narrow path that leads them to eternal life.

Tribute to Caesar

4.  What were the Pharisees plotting to do together? vs. 15 -

They sent their disciples to Him to ask Him if it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar.

5.  What did Jesus perceive about them? vs. 18 -

He asked them to show Him the coin used for the poll-tax.  He asked them who the picture on the coin was and the inscription on it?  They told him it was of Caesar.

6.  What did Jesus tell them? vs. 21

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

7.  On the same day, some Sadducees came to question Jesus also.  What do the Sadducees believe? vs. 1 -

( ... *this makes them "Sad...u...see?")

The Sadducees asked Him who a woman would be married to in heaven if she had been married to all seven brothers on earth, with each one leaving her to the next one.  From the answer that Jesus gives them, we learn that there will be no marriages in heaven, but we will all be like the angels.

8.  Then the Pharisees came to test Him again.  They asked Him to tell them the greatest commandment.  Jesus gave them two commandments that He said the whole law and the prophets depend on.  Write them out below:

  • (1) vs. 37 -
  • (2) vs. 39 -

9.  While the Pharisees were there with Him, what did He ask of them? vs. 42 -

10. How did they answer Him? vs. 42 -

Jesus asks them how can Christ be David's son and the Lord that David speaks of in the Psalm as well?  It stumped them and we are told they did not dare ask Him another question from that day on.

Application:

11. If we are to love the Lord like this, write out how you think each could be done?

  • With all your heart:
  • With all your soul:
  • With all your mind:
  • Your neighbor as yourself:
